Can I just use the version that is on Blackberry.com under the Cingular section, or do I have to use the Chinese version that is floating around?

Cingular has still not released v4.1 for the 7100g. Where are you seeing that?

You can install the CSL version 4.1 OK. I did it without problems, but each person does so at his own risk. YMMV.

i have the csl on my 7100g for the 4.1 , works better, fsater, and you can make and use custom themes, its worth doing. you will like your blackberry more in my opinion.

I am trying to upgrade the software on my Blackberry to 4.1. I have the software installed and the Desktop Manager (4.1) and it does not see the software. When you click on the Application Loader in the Manager it shows nothing. any ideas?
