Default Viewing other encodings in email

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
Is there a way to install additional fonts to view various encodings in emails? At this point, I have requirements to see Cyrillic (win-1251, koi-8) and Hebrew. UTF-8 (Unicode) will be nice as well.

Thank you

Nobody encountered this problem - does it mean that no foreign-language customization exist? Blackberrys are definitely available in Russia and were made recently available in Israel - so obviously, there's some sort of solution.
Anyone, please?

Well - I have same problem - I can't read any mail encoded as Cyrillic (tried all kinds, including UTF8)

Yeah, it's weird that we still can't resolve the issue after so long.. Actually, sending email in UTF-8 does work for the Cyrillic. It appears properly in Blackberry. Other Cyrillic encodings don't work. Hebrew UTF-8 doesn't work either.

Interesting. When I receive UTF-8 encoded cyrillic text, I just see empty message,
even though it's obvious there is _something_ there - I can select parts of blank lines.

I have BB7250, perhaps it's device-specific issue?

Oh, and fonts and everything is there - I see russian we pages just fine

Hmm http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59345 has interesting info on the subject.
Perhaps it could address your Hebrew issues as well...

Thumbs up

Thank you. Very interesting thread.
I've posted a reply there: http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/show...848#post293848

I wonder why UTF-8 doesn't work for you. What provider do you use? I have T-Mobile.

I'm with Verizon. I guess that shouldn't matter - all of them use same RIM service for forwarding (webclient.blackberry.net?)

Now, I suspect that their set-up does in fact something funny to mails, so I sent
them request to look at it. Dunno if anything will come of it. If it does, I'll
post something here.

And if I get UTF-8 to work, I'll be happy - I'll just hook recode into my server to
transform everything to UTF8 before forwarding to bb.

(Yeah - I don't know how to spell ;-)

Actually, T-Mobile just upgraded their WebClient software. We no longer use the weblcient.blackberry.net website. I'm not sure if internally the software is radically different, but I suspect it is. It was a major upgrade for T-Mobile (just performed on October, the 2nd). BB email was unstable for over a week.

Thank you, I appreciate that.

Alex.
P.S. Don't worry about spelling

Angry

So, that's what I got from Verizon:

We apologize for the inconvenience but the enabling Unicode on the Web Client is not a supported function by Verizon Wireless.

I wonder what I can do with this. BES is not an option - I simply don't have
any windows machines to run it on. I guess I'll try to revive Horde (it's supposed to have
WAP-capable webmail client), and just go with that...

Well - I set up horde+mimp on my mail server. Mimp is Mobile IMP - mobile-capable
webmail clinet. It works great. Except for one little detail. My BB does not propperly
read UTF-8 pages over HTTPS. And I obviously can't use webmail over cleartext HTTP.

Any idea on how to fixe _that_ problem?
