Default Uncaught Exception Error Inbox not accesible - 06-05-2006, 12:15 AM

Im generating this post for other users because I was unable to google an answer for this problem.

Today my blackberry 8700c began generating the following error when trying to access my inbox. As a result of this error I was unable to access my inbox.

Uncaught exception: DSSMA: invalid state [5] 2

I found that by removing and reinserting the battery the problem was resolved. I also went ahead and deleted most of my inbox messages just in case to free up space.

Hopefully this will help any others who may experience this problem.

I'll add my thanks as well. One of my users IM-ed me this morning with this error on her Blackberry. Google didn't work for me either, but Alltheweb brought me straight to this post. My user's inbox is working again and I'm her hero. Good find!

In the event you get one of these Unexpected Exception errors again you can try a "Hard Reset" by removing battery and holding down Power button (71XX/8XXX series phones) for 30 sec and replacing battery...if I'm not mistaken the removing of the battery for greater than 15sec on other model blackberries is still considered a "hard reset" someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If that doesn't get rid of the error you can reload the OS on the Blackberry relatively quickly (approx. 15-20min). There are plenty of tutorials on this site for accomplishing that task and it's pretty easy as well.

I was getting an Uncaught Exception error that prohibited me from checking my email the other day and a Hard Reset, battery removal, provisioning, service books resend didn't fix the problem....was only resolved by reloading OS.

Just remember, before a Hard Reset or an OS reload.........do a Backup with the Desktop Manager first!!! ........just in case.

Question Uncaught exception: DSSMA: - 02-08-2007, 08:32 AM

The hard reset has done the job. But I still want to know what the error message means!

Greetings,

I can get it to reliably happen. It happens when I delete multiple messages. It doesn't matter if those messages came to the same address or to different addresses (I have 9 emails in my BIS). Java error every time.

Using Cingular Pearl 8100, OS version 4.2.0.71

Help, I can't manage all that junk one email at a time...

Default That solved my problem too! - 05-16-2007, 05:19 PM

Thanks for sharing the experience, Irm21! I got the same error except the error message is different:

Uncaught exception: DSSMA: invalid state [5] 336

After I took out the battery and put it back again, the error was gone and I can access the inbox now.

this error occurs when user attempts to delete the Date displayed above the messages along with the messages themselves. to avoid: when selecting messages to be deleted, ensure that the date is not highlighted.
