Default Desktop Manager Works, Then Doesn't Work

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

Hoping someone can shed some light on this. When I first boot up my computer or restart, I can click on my Desktop Manager and have it come up and work just fine, no matter how long I wait to open it.

After that intital time, however, if I open it up again, say 5 minutes later for example, it comes up for a second then disappears OR it'll come up and I'll get the "send microsoft error report"--once I click out of that, it disappears.

If I restart my computer and try it again, it works fine--that one time after restarting. Thereafter, I get the same issues, i.e., rinse, lather, repeat.

So it basically only works the first time after startup. Is there a way to fix this?
BTW, I have the 7130e and synch to Outlook 2003 if that matters.

Deinstall/reinstall the latest BlackBerry Desktop. Then again, it appears that the issue lies with a background application. Possibly third-party, possibly native OS. Disable all background startup applications and unnecessary systems services and see if that helps.

Thanks. I already have disabled all unnecessary startup items with no change. I also downloaded and installed the 4.1 service pack which basically looks like it installed a newer version of 4.1. Result is the same.

The funny thing is, when it comes to actual syncronization of my device and outlook, it works flawlessly. It's just actually getting it to work again after using it the first time upon startup that's the issue.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

According to Microsoft, this is a known problem that RIM is trying to correct.

Thanks Dusty. Well, there you have it. Whew, I'm relieved it wasn't me.

I'm having the same problem on my wife's Dell (8700). Runs flawlessly on my home-built PC (7290).

I had been working after a few crashes, but lately it will not get connected on the desktop manager. It shows it is connected on either USB and Bluetooth connections on the Blackberry Device Manager.

Even though the device manger says it's connected, with Bluetooth, it will not connect on the deasktop manger, and USB will act as if it is "working" to connect, but never completes the connection.

I'll start shutting off other stuff besides AV and report back.

Steve

Default not connecting

i have an 8700c unblocked and keep trying to run desktop manager. everytime i open the application it loads and then disappears. the icon is in the system tray along with an extra icon that looks like a bb device with an "x" across it. as soon as the mouse hovers over the bb icon it disappears. the only thing i can open after that is the desktop manager properties. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the program at least 4 times correctly.( installing the desktop software and then the handheld software) somebody help

Default Desktop Manager Works, Then Doesn't Work

I have the same issue. Using a Blackberry 7290 with Desktop Mgr 4.1.. Installed Desktop Mgr, syched blackberry, thought all was fine. Logged off computer. logged in to sych blackberry and Desktop Mgr experiences an error and Windows must close the program. Repaired installation and worked fine. Logged out. Logged in and received error again. This time I uninstalled, reinstalled and again it worked fine. Logged out, logged in and received error.

While I"m glad to know it's not just me, I'd love to know how to fix it!

Thank you,

Julif

Default error - aha!

To elaborate on our setup from my previous message....
Our blackberry software is installed on a shared computer on our network. I installed it as an administrator and have discovered that it works for me if I am logged on as me. Making the other users administrators on the computer did not fix the problem. However, making them administrators on the network does.

Well, that is no solution. I can't have them be administrators on the network just so they can sych their blackberries.

There must be something I'm missing. I'd love some suggestions on other solutions.

Thank you,

julif
