Default IPPP for BIBS - 08-04-2006, 11:28 AM

I am using an unbranded 7130g on T-Mobile. Does anyone know how to force the installation of the IPPP for BIBS service book? I have sent the service books using all methods, but that one never appears. I know that if T-Mobile had a software pak for the 7130g, I would receive it. Is there a way to edit the installation files from another provider to force trick the 7130g into thinking it is branded for T-Mobile??

You can't, the carrier pushes the service books to your device. I have tried to back up the IPPP for BIBS service book using DM and restoring it to the new device and it doesn't take. Bottom line is that you may have to contact T-mobile directly and ask for them to push the service book to your new device.

Thank you Titetanium. Did you try to have T-Mo push this service book to you? and was it successful?

My experience has not been good. I called T-Mo and told them I was using a 7130g. They were very helpful in going through all the troubleshooting with me, even after I told them I was using an unsupported device. They even connected me to RIM support up there in Waterloo. After being on the phone for over an hour, RIM told me that they couldn't help because there was no T-Mo OS software for the device. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but what can I do now? My choices are live with it, less several features. Sell it, and get myself an 8700g. Wait for the new "8100" or whatever it will be called. I'll probably just live with it until the 8100 comes out, then sell it.

Anybody else have suggestions?

I just got a 7130c the other day and things seem to be working fine for me. What exactly is the IPPP service book? What does it do?

Thanks

From my understanding, the IPPP for BIBS service enables the "Internet browser" function as opposed to the WAP browser. It also enables the OZ chat client. With it missing, I am unable to save ringtones, pictures, etc from web sites.

UPDATE: So, I just spent the last 2 hours on the phone with T-MO, and then RIM. I asked T-Mo to reprovision my SIM, per the advice graphreak found on PINSTACK. They did that, and when the IPPP for BIBS service book was not pushed down, they transferred me to RIM. The RIM tech went through all sorts of info, and finally came back with the root of the problem. Since the 7130 is not a supported device on T-Mobile, RIM is not provisioned to send down the T-MO IPPP for BIBS service book to the device. Apparently, RIM needs to receive a formal request from the T-MO BB Engineering dept to provision the RIM servers to send the service book to this type of device. The RIM tech I was speaking with then conference called T-MO with me and explained the problem to the TMo BB Tech. The BB tech took down all the info and was going to escalate it to the engineering department, who in turn is supposed to get back to me after doing a bit of research. Everyone has been extremely nice and helpful, and I hope that I can get this resolved for me and all you T-Mo people who are trying to use the 7130.

BTW, all you 7130 T-Mobile people might want to consider calling BB Tech Support yourselves and registering your request. Strength in numbers and all that

Just wondering why T-Mobile should respond since they don't sell or support that model BB???

That, of course, is the $10 million question. I really don't expect them to. However, one tech I spoke with said that he believed they were testing the 7130. I am really just hoping that they would respond because one of their customers asked. Even if they just call back again and say that there is nothing they can do. At least give me the courtesy of a call back. We'll see...............

The tech was wrong. T-Mobile is not testing the 7130. Their next splash is the 8100. It would be nice if they supported it, but they don't.
