Default Verizon to Alltel - 08-09-2006, 01:38 PM

I have a 7250 user on Verizon that I'm going to move to Alltel. The Alltel people say they can't flash the Verizon 7250 for the Alltel network. BUT, I exchanged a busted one through Alltel and got one back that is programmed for Alltel but has a Verizon sticker on it! Do you think Alltel is just trying make me spend some cash or is there some truth to what they tell me?

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

As long as the esn isn't registered to Verizon it should work.

I suppose I could load the Alltel software on it, switch the ESN, and just try it.

Well, I loaded the Alltel OS and tried to switch the ESN online but it didn't take the new ESN. You're probably right about it being registered with them. But I'll talk to my rep and see about that. When I check the Network on the handheld it says "Verizon". Is that something I can change? Any other thoughts?

Update (if anybody cares):
I nuked the handheld (instead of just wiping it), installed the Alltel OS, programmed an Alltel cell # into it and had the ESN changed. I can make calls from it when I use the area code otherwise it gives me some Verizon message about checking the number. Under Options->Network it still says Verizon and it still has a Verizon splash screen. Also, when I do a PRL update it reverts back to the Verizon number. Is there a firmware loaded by each provider? Can it be changed? Can I just change the Network? By the way, the only reason I'm dinking around with this so much is because we don't have a lot going on right now.
