Default New user question about software - 08-16-2006, 10:53 AM

Hi!

I have recently purchase a 7290 on ebay and I have two question for you about the unit software. First of all is it normal that the software freeze like once a day, I,ve been using it for two days now and it froze one time day.

Second, the software version on it is: V.4.0.0.198. To what I've seen there's a new version but here's my problem:

If the BB is unlocked (but T-mobile branded) wich provider I use to upgrade my software BB. If I use T-mobile will it lock it again or can I use the upgrade from my the provider that I use it with wich is canadian Rogers?

To my knowledge, each provider has a different "flavor" of the handheld software. For example, my T-mobile handheld software has a custom browser icon. The Verizon equivalent however does not include a custom browser icon. I'd suggest you use the software from your local provider.

As for the freezing, it happens. It just depends on what you are doing. My BB, for example, freezes when I have lengthy conversations via Yahoo IM.

How about locking it again, does an upgrade can do this?

I wouldn't know. I've never unlocked a BB before.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719; en; U; ssr))

Also, upgrading your devices software may fix your problem as a lot of the newer apps are specifically designed for OS 4.1 and will not function properly on an older OS and may also be the reason your device freezes. Also, to my knowledge once a BB is unlocked, it is permanent. Nothing you do will "re-lock" it.

I'm going to upgrade it but is there anyone who can confirm that if I upgrade it will stay unlock and that there's no problem upgrading with Rogers software if it is T-mobile branded?

Upgrading the handheld OS from one carrier to another has no impact on changing the lock status of a phone. It will stay unlocked.

daphatty - the browser is pushed down over the network. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the carrier software.
