Hi guys

I am tearing my hair out here - I installed some themes to my Blackberry - O2, Vodafone and Tmobile - but when I try and select them I get an Uncaught Exception 'unable to find parent'. This is annoying but even worse, I now cannot use the 'application loader' program on my desktop as it just sits there grinding away on 'connecting to handheld (JVM)'

I have tried hard reset and totally wiping but they are still there. Its driving me crazy - there MUST be a way to get rid of the damn files!

I am a newb with the blackberry - PLEASE HELP!

Locate Javaloader or even better JL_CMDR (search for it on these forums) and completely wipe out the BB.

...and it has totally knacked my blackberry! It shows a little circle with a line through and error code 507.... eek!

Now you have to reload the Blackberry OS using Desktop Manager. Look for the one you need in this thread: BlackBerryOS 4.x Download FAQ - UPGRADE DOWNLOADS

Install it on your desktop computer and use the Application Loader part of Desktop Manager to install it on the BB.

Shame on NJ for leaving that part out

I'm not sure what happened to the device but it's a 7250 on the VZW network It's acting as if it's trying to boot but the device screen isn't working properly it will detect on the computer but as the light blinks it will disconnect and reconnect to the computer. I am unable to determine what exactly is going on. I can keep it connected IF I use the Application Loader Wizard it will connect and stop "bouncing" between the two.

Now my next question is this. Is there a way to retreive the contacts and the calendar from the device? That's the only 2 things that are really needed and the person I'm doing this for was unable to do a backup prior to this because of receiving a new computer and the last backup was done a month ago which doesn't have current calendar sync for her appointments or contacts added within the last month as well.

You did the right thing. It's me, I'm a blackberry noob. Silly of me to think it would be like any other type of electronic equipment and a simple case of deleting the files from it!

I'm fairly certain that there's no hope of retrieving much of anything from the device after it's been so thoroughly wiped. If this PIM existed somewhere else (on Outlook, corp email, etc.), then it should be easy to just sync the BB and replace the missing calendar and contacts.

The BB should find the proper network with no problems after the OS is loaded. You may need to resend service books to make everything work as it should, but that's simple enough to do.

Yes - when you reload the OS your blackberry will boot and connect with the network that provides you service. I've loaded many different OS's on my 7230 and now my 8700 but I always connect to T-Mobile, my provider.

I know it seems a bit scary but as others have said - download the latest OS for the 7230 (I would suggest you get the version that your carrier provides for minimum effort on your part or if deleting the vendor.xml file isn't too much greek for you grab the latest version of 4.0 software out there for the 7230 - I think that was from cingular) and run it on your computer. Once loaded on the computer start desktop manager and then start the application loader. It should recognize that a version of the software exists and let you load it onto your blackberry. After it reboots you will connect to your cell provider and your back in business.
