Default Desktop Redirection Software

Please Login to Remove!

Hello!

I have just become the proud (inherited) owner of a 7230. I do not intend to use it for wireless email.

I do however require to be able to sync my 7230 with my outlook personal folders every morning before my commute. I understand this is possible using desktop redirector. I have two questions for you:

1) If I sync my personal folders with my 7230, would i be able to reply to messages "offline" so that they would be sent the next time i sync the device with my PC?

2) Unfortunately, my boss (who gave me the BB), no longer has the CD. Where can I download the desktop redirector? If it is not available for download, would somebody be happy to send it to me (obviously assuming there would be no licensing issues)?

Many thanks for your anticipated help,

Dan

To the best of my knowledge at the moment, BlackBerries do not currently make good "100% offline" email readers. (Although some have mentioned third party software that may do the trick - such as Dynoplex's eWorks package -- not 100% sure -- costs $99)

You can download BlackBerry Desktop from RIM's website, though it's possible the web version may not include the Desktop Redirector component. (I don't use Redirector)

Thanks Mark.

99 bucks is a bit steep for an offline email reader! I may just have to write my own. If i find the time, im going to try to do something about this lack of freeware on the BB!

I hae downloaded the desktop software from RIM but unfortunately it does not include redirector.

Does anybody have any ideas?

You are going to be very disappointed. The BlackBerry was not designed to do what you want to do. You can not "sync" your e-mail from your personal folders - forget about Desktop Redirector, that is used to forward incoming e-mail, assuming you are using an Exchange e-mail server, and works via wireless.

As far as writing an off-line e-mail reader, well, to date it hasn't been done.

The BB is designed for wireless e-mail - and not for offline e-mail processing.

In BES 4.0, you can compose e-mails offline (like on an airplane), and send those message after you get to a desktop with the appropriate Desktop Manager 4.0 software installed (and BES 4.0).

Sigh. Well, I'm glad I didnt spend any money on this BB!

They are great bits of kit when used to their full potential. I'm actually quite impressed with the phone and calendar.

Anyway, thanks for your help. I'm going to go and read up on developing BB software and see if I am up to the challenge!
