At work we have a few BlackBerry devices avialable and I never get to use one of them so I am not too familiar with them at all. I had a report of a strange one time occurance the other day, but I want to get some background information on it if possible for future reference.
Here's the deal...
One of the techs installed the Desktop Manager 4.1 on a users machine, he verified it was installed properly and working as advertised. Then he installed the OS 4.1 for the Cingular 8700c software for the user. Once that was completed, the Desktop Manager would no longer open. Similar to what is stated in this KB article from BlackBerry. I can't post links yet... need 9 more posts, so add the w w w at the beginning. blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8021/7919/7921/Support_-_BlackBerry_Desktop_Manager_closes_unexpectedly.ht ml?nodeid=718238&vernum=0
The article doesn't seem to follow the same circumstances as the issue reported by the tech. Unfortunately the laptop is currently offline and the tech was able to get the issue resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling everything again, it took a few tries.

Any one have any insight on this? I'm a BlackBerry newb... who doesn't have a BlackBerry to test against.
EDIT: I should add that the next time this issue comes up, we are going to try re-registering the files mentioned in the KB article. I'm still looking for some insight on this though if anyone has any.
