Default JVM Error 531 - javaloader fails to connect

Please Login to Remove!

Any ideas what this is? My BB7100t (4.0.0.198) crashed on clearing the device to activate with BES. On bootup I get

JVM Error 531
Flash exhausted 16396

It then has a long list of options, anyone see this before?

No, but you will probably need to reload it then try to re-activate it. Does it not boot at all because of this error?

Yeah, it just sits at the screen with a list of options (debug, catfail, attach debugger, debug mode, etc iirc).

I went ahead and did an OS reload and got to the same point. Performed another OS reload and selected advanced and clear/erase. It ran though that, now its sitting at "reconnecting to JVM" on the application load, the device is just hung with a revolving hour glass and a rapid blinking amber/red status indicator.

try the javaloader -usb wipe, or nuke handheld option from your BES manager, then try an OS reload.

I'm on the phone with RIM working on it, so far the javaloader -usb wipe just sits there with no change:

RIM Wireless Device Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2003 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...

it just sits like that until its interupted with a ctrl-c

Alright, so the current deal on it is:

blackberry fails to book, just sits at hourglass with blinking red/amber status LED.
javaloader fails to connect. Desktop Manager application loader just hangs at "Connecting to handheld (JVM)..."

so after 2-hours of the hourglass it switched to a 507 error. I performed a javaloader wipe and am now trying to install the software (keeping my fingers crossed).

So far, so good. Its initializing the BES services again...and just finished.

All is well, I just won't be putting BWC back on it due to "file" problems.

Thanks to everyone for the good info on this site!

From the BlackBerry Knowledge Base. (in case anyone is curious)

531 Flash exhausted There are certain operations where the JVM cannot tolerate running out of flash space. In these circumstances, this error will be reported if the JVM cannot allocate a required amount of flash space.
