Default No Wireless Addressbook synch option

Please Login to Remove!

I'll try to include all the details. Everyone here is stumped.

Problem: Address book does not sync wirelessly. It does synch via USB. Email and Calender work perfectly.
There is no Wireless reconciliation option in my address book options. It just isn't there. My coworkers BB has it (same model) but mine doesn't.

Blackberry 7130E via Verizon.
software version 4.1.0.268
Corporate BES server.
Contacts in Outlook 2003 no special folders or anything.

We have already:
Reinstalled software on the BB twice
Deleted account from BES server twice and recreated. All permissions look good.
Gone through Ent Activation 4 or 5 times.

Nothing even gets the option to synch the addy book wirelessly to show up, much less actually lets it synch.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you use the desktop manager to perform the enterprise activation? Make sure your desktop manager is at least 4.0 or higher. Also check to make sure they have the same IT policy as everyone else in your BES

I do have the same IT policy as everyone else (I have access to the BES server)

Desktop Manager is 4.1.0.8

As for the enterprise activation, thanks for reminding me, I left this part out because I forgot.

Activation over the air (what do you mean use the desktop to activate?) just hung at 11% for hours. I just rebooted and it was fine afterwards except for the address book thing.

Default No Wireless Addressbook synch option

Does anyone know or have an idea when the Wireless Sync menu option decides to show up. There is not a feature anywhere to specifically turn it on or off. Miraculously it shows up on its own when it feels like it. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this mystery. Everyone asks me when it shows up and I tell them to cross their fingers.

Running BES 4.0.6.12
Running 7290 OS 4.1.0.309

Same Problem with me - The details are
BB8800 (Cingular) Firmware version is 4.2.1.72
Desktop Manager version 4.2.1.8

I am sure I had that option on my 8700 and kind of half sure that I had a wireless sync option in the addressbook options on the 8800 too when I started using it. Somewhere down the line it seems to have disappeared. I don't think I did anything strange to the BB configuration etc other than once restoring addressbook contents from a back up that was taken from the 8700.
Can't seem to think of any logical reason for the wireless sync to not be available for addressbook

I'd say wipe and reactivate.

I had the same problem. Couldnt sync OTA expect for email and calender.
After installing the desktop client 4.2 SP1 it fixed itself.
The first time you start the new client it triggers a new enterprise registration (OTA) and informs you that address book, tasks and notes cannot be synced by the client, since they are enabled for OTA.

Since 4.2 SP1 is version 4.2.1.8 I think the trick here is the enterprise activation ... (I see others are already on 4.2.1.8)

Hope that helps.
Rick

What seems to have fixed the problem for me is regenerating encryption keys - Options -> Security -> General Settings ->Scroll down to Services ->click menu - it should show an option "Regenerate Encryption Key". I didn't do this specifically because the address book wasn't syncing wirelessly. There was some other problems with receiving mails while roaming on another network and I was simply trying out some thing/anything to get it working. But that seems to have fixed the address book problem as well.

Did the "Regenerate Encryption Key" method work for anyone else? It did not for me. I disabled wireless sync on Address Book, Calendar, and Tasks so that I could manually sync with my home computer (as I have been doing for months). Then, when I went to re enable the wireless sync's it worked fine for Calendar and Tasks, but the option had disappeared on Address Book.

BB8800, Cingular, v.4.2.1.72, BES, Desktop Manager (v. 4.2 SP2).

Any suggestions which don't involve wiping the device?

Thanks in advance.

When you select wireless calendar, it enables wireless synch for the rest of it usually.

That, unfortunately, didn't work, but something else did! Problem solved. For what it's worth, here's what I did:

1. Deleted the "Desktop [SYNC]" Service Book.
2. Battery Pull (This resulted in the "Wireless Synchronization" Option disappearing in BOTH Address Book and Tasks, although, strangely, still there in Calendar).
3. Plugged Device into Computer and ran Desktop Manager.
4. Got the error that says "Cannot Sync via Desktop Manager because Wireless Synchronization is enabled -- Tasks, Address Book" (or whatever it says).
5. Unplugged device from Computer.
6. Wham-O - Problem Solved. The Wireless Synchronization Option is back in all menus and it works perfectly.

Very, very strange, but it works and that's what counts, I suppose!

I was having the same Address issue on my 8800c on BES. However the "Desktop[SYNC]" removal worked for me. It did not change the menu, but in about an hours all my address changes had updated.
Thanks!!

Default wipe handheld

so you said do you have suggestions other than wiping the device. The wipehandhel fixes a good majority of the problems. there should be no issues with a wipe handheld removing any data as once you do the enterprise activation again, all of the data goes back down to the device so you don't lose anything. Redoing the service book works yes, but i think the origina problem in the post above was the enterprise activation hanging at 11% and then you disconnected it from the computer. Anytime that happens, i always just wipe it and redo it. it's cleaner and i haven't had any issues with that process.
