I have found after extensive testing on about 8 different 8700c's that any other firmware, other than the .194 (cingular) results in degraded voice quality and results in more dropped calls than the .194....
Perhaps the radio package in .194 has some REQUIRED cingular specific entries that the other, newer versions do not...
I've noticed the opposite effect. The os that came on my 8700c did not offer very good voice quality at all. Since I got the phone in Jan. I've used the 1st Bharti, Orange UK, Telstra, Dobson and the new Bharti (I think I left out a few). They all offered better voice quality as well as louder, clearer earpiece volume.

interesting...I have noticed absolutely no change in signal at all with any of the Firmware versions.. .194 all they way up to .466....Just noticing some voice problems
