Default 7290 OS Reload Problems Please Help! - 04-02-2005, 08:35 PM

Hello,

Going to make this short as possible, I typed in about 5 paragraphs a few minutes ago only to have IE crash and lost it all (Thanks Microsoft).

7290 Brand New Cingular

Installed a few apps

VeriChat (worked fine)
bblight (worked fine)
Themes (didn't work) Silly me didn't read they were designed for a 7100.

Attempted to remove themes

Turned ribon screen black and white

Figured OS either had something corrupted or missing etc.

Attempted to remove everything via app manager. (didn't work)

Uninstalled RIM software

Rebooted PC

Installed BB Dekstop 4.0 for Cingular

Removed vendor.xml file

BB device starts up and shows a box on the screen with a slash-circle around it and the number 507 under it. (I assume this means no OS is present)

Desktop software sees BB via USB

App manager never attempts to or asks anything about installing OS.

This is where I am currently

Please advise.....what am I missing or doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Doh! After looking in the RIM directory a little further I realized that the Desktop software does not include the OS for the BB.

I didn't scroll down far enough and only saw the desktop software 4.0.

I am downloading the BB OS now and will let you know how it turns out.

Now that I installed the BB OS it pops right up when I run App Manager!

Oh well, I can be embarassed in front of the community and learn something in the process!

hi - quick question - I had the same 507 error appear on my blackberry after what appeared to be a failed OS upgrade. were you able to recover your device after you got the 507 error?

what were the steps you took to get 4.0 upgraded on your device after it got stuck on the 507 error.

thanks in advance.

Normally, you should be able to load the OS over a 507 error, but if it continues to fail, doing the load from a different PC (with the proper software on it, of course) has always worked at my shop. If that's not an option, I'd try a complet uninstall/reinstall of the BB software on the PC (DM and OS).

When you get the fault you may only have a Backup for the previous version.
Therefore, install the previous firmware version.
Restore the data
Run upgrade again.

You can restore direct onto Version 4, although this will have to be done manually, as some components will just make the restore freeze.

ok, when this happened to me, it gave me a spinning hourglass for a long time. followed by the 507 fault. so, at the error, what are the exact steps that i should try to fix this? should i try to load on a different computer? also, i read something about using javaloader to do a wipe. is this something i need to be concerned with?

i'm a bb newbie, so this frustrating for me :(

Go into Device Manager (WinXP) and scan for hardware changed and try again, if that doesn't work then pull that battery from your device and place it back and run app loader as quickly as you can to establish the usb connection, it's worked many a times for me.

Thanks.. I finally got my machine to re-recognize the USB connection. What a pain in the %#*s. This was my "new" refurbed unit that I had just loaded two days ago. I had to wipe it after getting a 411 error.

Anyway, I am back online. See how far this gets me.

Thanks again
