Default I could use a hand with updating my 7250 and copying applications

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I am currently using a 7250 with version 4.0.0.204 software on it. I was wanting to upgrade to the 4.1.x so I could take advantage of the new features ( mostly the E-VDO capability.)

My dilemma is as follows: The 7250 was issued to me by my employer. The device has an application that we use at work, and I'm afraid an upgrade would simply install a new image and completely overwrite the currently installed software. Is there a way for me to copy current programs and settings onto my PC so I can install them after the update? Or, is there a way for me to copy the complete image onto my PC so I can rollback the device if this software vanishes?

Welcome to the forums....

While I don't know the app you are referring to I will suggest this. Use the latest version of the Desktop Manager software 4.2.0.14. It backs up all applications installed, even wirelessly installed apps, before wiping and reloading the new OS. I don't know why your app would be any different. When I upgrade I get everything back as it was. During the upgrade process you will see a list of all the software it's going to backup and restore. Just check to make sure your app is in there and checked.

You can create .cod's from apps you have loaded. I used Stinsonddog's tips page to do it. However, it took quite a while to get all the software necessary rounded up and loaded and then figure out how to do it. I'll bet I spent a couple hours getting it going, but it did work. I don't think with the new Desktop Manager software you'll need to do that.

Hope this helps.

That does help, thank you. But now for the ultimate noob question: Do you have a link for the 4.2 software? I just downloaded the 4.1 stuff from vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/

Oh, I suppose it's worth mentioning that the device is a Verizon BlackBerry.

4.2 from what I've heard will never be released for the 72xx series.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Your comment above makes sense. From what I understand the improvements from 4.2 desktop relate to features that the 72xx models do not have

Not totally true - there is a Switch Device Wizard in DM 4.2. 4.2 is more than just the Media Manager (which does require handheld OS 4.2).

Alight, so I can use the 4.2 desktopand install the 4.1 OS on my Verizon 7250? Could someone point me in the direction of the 4.2 software? Thanks for the replies.
