Default OS update and BB Maps drains my battery - 01-04-2007, 10:40 PM

I've been away from the forums a while and popped back in to check on teh latest software. I found the OS to be updated for my 7520 as well as the addition of Blackberry maps.

After a successful installation, I noticed the following days leading to today that my battery would drain after 5-6 hours of light usage. I have been getting at least 14 hours before my last bar appears prior to both these updates.

Does anyone have the same experience? I made sure the 'GPS' function of BB Maps is off. I also close the software when not in use.

There is also a lot of 'traffic' coming in and out (the arrow keys on the upper right corner of the screen) of my blackberry.....which I strongly believe is draining more of my battery. I can't seem to stop this. Thanks.

If you have BB Maps running in the background it will continue to pull data using your radio, thus causing a battery drain. Double check the program is not running in the background.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't it only pull data if you are moving the map? If the map stays in the same area (like GPS is turned off), then it shouldnt pull data. There must be some other program that is using data all the time, or you are going in and out of coverage area because of the new OS

Check under options to see if the amount of downloaded data is increasing. Or even remove the bb maps to check.

I noticed a severe battery drain after installing bbmaps as well. i finally uninstalled it tonight. I'll know by noon tomorrow if it was the problem.
