Question How do I flash my BB ROM? - 01-25-2007, 10:37 PM

This is probably a very noobish Q, but... I looked at the latest rom versions and mine is back at 4.0.XX and the latest one for nextel is 4.1.XX

I went to the nextel site and searched and couldn't find it. I went to the BB site and searched and couldn't find it...

Can somone at least tell me which site it's on? I feel a little dumb asking this but...

This link tells the latest OS for most of the devices. There is also a link to a FAQ where you can download the OS's.

Based on your previous posts, you have a 7510. The latest version available for the 7510 is 4.0.2.54. You can not install version 4.1.x.x.

Sorry.

Doug

Remember, please try searching first!

Need a screenshot? ... Like JavaLoader?
Try using BBscreen .....Use JL_Cmder!
or BBScreenShooter!

Well, I'm at 4.0.0.113 so that's still an upgrade...

There are instructions on the download site. Read them before you start. Good luck!

I'm screwed...

I tried to flash it and there was an error restoring data... now I have a monochrome screen, with text-only options (which are "options", "phone", "messages", and "settings") and when it goes into locked mode, I nolonger have a "NEXTEL" banner or logo. It doesn't even display signal strength or battery... When I press alt-escape, all that's running is "Phone", "messages", and "java console".

The worst part, though... I cant get it to connect to the desktop manager to restore! the device manager recognizes it, but BB desktop wont log in! I tried running the installer again, but it goes through it's paces and says it's successfully installed, and quits, no change to my BB!

HELP!!!

EDIT:
I've tried everything, and I Cant connect to my BB. It will still place and recieve calls, but it's silent... so the device is worthless now... I may try calling Nextel tomorrow (I've alrady gone to their store and they're clueless about BBs) but since i'm the second owner I doubt they'll be able to do anything...

I'm watching another BB, the 7520, on eBay... trying to decide wheather to buy it or just look for a iden->axim datacable and thumbpad for my PDA and forget about BBs... my experiance has been a very mixed one and I'm teetering back and forth, trying to decide which rout to take, since my 7510 seems to have become an emergancy-only-phone-slash-paperweight now...

Give this a try. Wipe the handheld with JL_CMDER in my sig below. Be sure Desktop Manager is not running when you wipe it. When it's done you should get a 507 error on the device. Close JL_Cmder and and run Desktop manager, select USB (it may not show the PIN, that's ok) from the connection menu and then run Application Loader again.

Edit: Actually, before trying the above, with the device the way it is, can you go to settings and choose a theme? It almost sounds like there is no theme installed. I've had this happen before, just not on the 7510.

So, you ended up wiping with JL_Cmder and reloading?

The problem in this case usually was that a theme was loaded and when the OS was updated, the theme was not retained, so it reverted back to the fail safe theme which was black and white.
