I am the BlackBerry Admin for a large company and we recently deployed the BlackBerry service based on the 4.0 BES and handheld software. While dealing with the BES licenses, I noticed a few strange things (all our licenses were purchased through our telco company!):

• the Version 3.5 licenses also work on BES 4.0 (they all start with besx35 for BlackBerry for Exchange). How cool is that, considering that the BES 4.0 licenses are more expensive, wohoo! (Our telco company didn't know...)
• When you try to add more users to the BES than the license permits (e.g. you have a 20 user license and want to add, say, 25 users), this doesnt work with some licenses, as expected. However, some other license numbers allow you to add those extra users, all you get is a warning. The BES manager then shows free licenses -5! Whats up with that?
• You cant mix the licenses that allow you to exceed the number of users with licenses that dont allow you that, trying to do so produces a warning

Do you have similar experiences? Do you know anything about this? What kind of license types are available?

When we upgraded from Small Business to the full blown Enetrprise Edition, RIM had to reissue our first 20 licenses with a new key because I was told the license keys were not interchangeable.

For the problem with more users than the license permit, I work since 1 year with 42 users and license for only 40. And all works fine.
