With the icon selected that you would like to move or hide, hold down your Alt key and press the trackwheel. You will be provided with options such as Move Application, Hide Application and Show All (assuming your are hiding icons). If you select Move Application, you can then scroll the trackwheel to move the icon to where you want it. Click the trackwheel once to set the icon in it's new location.
When in doubt, empty the magazine...
