Default OS Upgrade question

Please Login to Remove!

I looked at the sticky for most recent OS. It lists the 8703e with an Alltel version. I have the Verizon version, and their software is a few revisions behind. Is there any drawbacks for upgrading to the Alltel version? Will everything work properly as it does now? Are there any work-arounds that need to be done?

I've heard people say you need to delete a vendor file, can someone please explain to me how that's done?

All the software is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers. You can use "Alltel" software on a Verizon BB.

The VENDOR.XML file is located on your PC C: drive in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Here's the process:

- Download the Handheld OS
- Execute the program you just downloaded
- Delete the VENDOR.XML file
- Start Desktop Manager

It will now load the new handheld code.

Cool thanks! So there's nothing I'll have to do to make sure my text messaging, internet, BIS work properly once I install the latest Alltel software?

Nope; should work just fine.
The first step of the process is a backup; the last is a restore...

So I did everything and it did the update. Told me there was updated stuff, ran through no problem. If I go to Options -> About, it still shows v4.1.0.373 (Platform 2.2.0.171). Did the update not work? I deleted the Vendor.xml file before I connected the 8703e and opened Desktop Manager.

I'm a bit confused right now...

Also, do I need to re-install the DST patch?

According to the Alltel download site, their latest version is

Applications: 4.1.0.373
Software Platform: 2.2.0.171
File name: 8703eEFSBP_PBr4.1.0_rel518_PL2.2.0.171_A4.1.0.373_ Alltel.exe

So, it looks to me like it is current.

To see if the patch is still there go into Options - it will be at the top.

Nevermind, I was looking at the package version (4.1.0.518), not the App version, which is correct.

I reinstalled the DST patch as well.
