Unhappy Calendar sync with IntelliSync

Please Login to Remove!

A user tries to sync her Lotus Notes 6.5.1 calendar. It says "synching record 87 of 352" or something like that, and you see the number increment pretty fast.

Problem is it stops at 87 and gives me a NSD error, and generates a large log file for the crash.

I wish I knew what records 87 and 88 are. Is there a way to manually look at the same list that IntelliSync is looking at, and count to 87 to identify the record in question? I am thinking there is a corrupt document or item on a document, so if I could just find the doc #87, I may be in business.

I do not know the versions of everything, other than the model is a 7100g, but I could get it if anyone needs it to help me.

Dont shoot me for being such a noob. I was asked to help set all this up, but didn't actually get an eval handheld myself.

Thanks.

Enabled advanced logging
Open the iloptcfg.cfg file in c:\Document and Settings\user name\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Intellisync with Notepad.
Edit the MultiJobTraceLog value to equal 200 (the default is 0).
Edit the TifLog value to equal 100 (the default is 0).
Save the file.
Run Intellisync

Default Did that...what does that tell me?

Different Guy, same problem...

I modified the iloptcfg.cfg as you stated (also found the same recommendation on the blackberry tech support articles site) and created the pttrace.log and tif.log files.

What now? Those files are huge and I can't quite tell what the problem is...

Any suggestions? I sure appreciate your help. My company's IT group is nice and all, but they just give up on this kind of stuff...

I confirmed the brute force method (of finding and deleting the calendar entry that is causing the problem) works as well...the trick is finding the corrupt calendar entry and deleting it. I started with deleting all calendar entries from 12/30/04 and back (didn't need those to sync anyway)...and ended up deleting batches of 5 entries at a time for 2005, resynching after each delete to see if I caught the bad one and then adding the appointments back in. I am now up and running and synching happily!

Wedgehead,

Do you recall if the entry you deleted had anything abnormal or complex about it? I have the same problem and after talking to RIM level 3 support, they say my problem (calander not synching with the device) is caused by a corrupted .pst file. I should create a new PST file try to synch the new pst file. Any feedback before resorting to this?

Exclamation Intellisync answer/problem

I've had the same problem as well. Deleting the bad message will cure the syncing.

The problem I've noticed is in the description feild of the calendar entry. Instead of deleting the meeting, you can delete everything that is in the desciption field.

My meetings that fail/crash all have the following in the description feild: a blue triagle/carrot that allows the user to see more info (pasted in from an email string). If someone copies an email string into the description field, you'll probably paste this blue toggle in. When you do - it will probably crash on that meeting.

After talking to level 3 Blackberry tech support is to create a new PST folder and move all my calendar items into it. I then synched and the calendar worked. I then moved back all my calendar records for 2005 and synched again. It worked. I guess it was an older record that had the "blue toggle". Anyway, the software works on my pc. It was a huge pain getting it to work!!

Is there a way to search for this item so that I can find it quickly and delete it? Thanks.
