I just bought a new laptop with Vista.

I have installed BBDesktop Manager 4.2.1.8

I can tether the unit and connect to the internet but when I try to configure synch it crashes.

I get all the way to choosing the application and as soon as I click on MS Outlook the desktop manger crashes.

Any idea's?

did you try a reinstall of the software already?

try to use the program procmon (process monitor) to find out where exactly it hangs

Just to let you now I have experienced the same problem precisely and have begun to research what can be done. I bought a new IBM Thinkpad and have now tried to install, uninstall, and re-install the BBDesktop Manager several times with all routes blocked. That fatal crash with forced reboot is not pretty. As a new Vista user and relatively new BlackBerry user I am a little frustrated in my Quest. Frankly the installation CD from BlackBerry leaves a lot to be frustrated about in that the instructions are not clear with virtually no help available.

I will advise of course if I have success.

I also would advise to uninstall the Desktop and reinstall and see what happens

Just to let you know once I downloaded and installed on my Thinkpad (running Windows Vista Business), the latest version of BB Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 (otherwise known as v4,2,1,8), my 8703e (running v4.1.0.352) appears to be running flawlessly.

I made a couple of observations on my way through this. On installation of the BB Desktop software, select the Bluetooth configuration option which then lets you select the option to use USB over Bluetooth when connected (tethered). Then when you go into the connections settings in BB Desktop, do not use the "Detect" option until you are tethered and Vista has detected and installed your BB device.
