Default How to use a Blackberry as a modem to send fax thru normal telephone line ?

Please Login to Remove!

I have successfully set up my Blackberry 7290 AT&T to be used as a modem to access the internet. But I could not use it as a normal modem to send a fax thru normal telephone line using WinFax, MigtyFax, etc...The software fax just couldn't communicate with the modem when sending. It could interrogate the modem but failed to communicate with it when tried to send the fax.

Has anybody tried this and succeeded ?

Thanks.

Well keep in mind that you are using a GPRS packet data connection to the network you are not accessing POTS (plain old telephone service) which faxes work on.

What you could do is use eFax Messenger to access there fax gateway and go that route.

I have thought about this solution (eFax and others), but there is this confidentiality issue that I couldn't get cleared out. With a solution such as eFax, your documents have to go thru and reside on a server somewhere...
Since I often fax my banking coordinates for transfer purposes, this is definitely not a solution.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Make sure the SIM card provided your GSM carrier is enabled for fax services..
You could also try to make a standard circuit swiched data (Dial up) call from the device as this uses a similar bearer..if it wont do this, then you wont be able to use it as a fax modem either unfortunately.
