Default HELP! Installing DS from mem stick!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone,

I don't have my Desktop Software CD, and this computer uses dial-up. I have DS installed on the computer at my cottage, so when I was there this weekend, I went to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion and copied all of that folder's contents onto my memory stick.

They have all sucsessfully transfered onto this computer, however... when I click on the Desktop Manager icon, it opens, then closes very quickly.

I know that this isn't the best way to install DS, but is there any way I can get it working in this manner?

Thanks!

No. It has to be installed properly. Just copying that folder won't do it. There are a couple of other folders as well as registry entries that need to be installed by the installation wizard.

Okay, well here's the other thing..

I bought my BB off of eBay. It came with a CD ( that I have right here ) that has several other software on it for other devices (I bought it from an eBay member who sells a LOT of phones so I guess this is why). When I try to install it from there, I get a message saying "An error has occured: cannot find data1.cab . Please locate this file or verify that you can access it"

I would just download DS but on AOL Dial Up it would take at least 7 hours.

Any ideas John?

Ryan, there's nothing you can do. It sounds like all the software isn't on the CD you have. You'll need to download it. No way around it.

You have to download the package that says desktop manager. There are some with just device manager.
