Default Selective Restore - items on handheld grayed out - 04-16-2007, 10:57 AM

I've upgrade my 8700 to OS4.2 (And DM 4.2) and wanted to retore bookmarks, etc. I did a full backup. But when I go to backup/restore, advanced, the handheld shows a lot of items grays out and says at the bottom "Databases that are unavailable in the list have been configured for wireless synchronization or wireless backup and are read-only. You cannot restore or clear them"

90% of the list is grayed out! I've tried turning off wireless synch for Contacts, Email, etc., where I can, but the grayed out list never seems to change. Since where can you wirelessly backup Bookmark anyhow?

I'm on a company BES.

Suggestions?

Since bes 4.x.

If it is greyed out then you need to talk to the admin about getting the old data in. He may have to take it off the server, let you import your data and then add it back. I had to do this once for some people.

Just delete the SYNC service book to disable OTA sync.. Then you can restore..

After you finish, disconnect and reconnect the BB and the SYNC service book will appear again.

OK, I can try that. Hopefully it will come back and I won't have to waste the time of my BES Admin (they are awfully busy!). Odd though that the items greyed out (like browser bookmarks, autotext, etc) are not items that are wirelessly synched or available on the BES. At least I assume those are not wirelessly synched!

Actually, pretty much everything is wirelessly sync'd now. It's actually a nice feature. If you lose your BB, or have to do an unexpected wipe then when you reactivate on the BES everything comes back pretty much as it was before. Quite handy.

patrickh,

Thanks for the advice, I removed the sync and was able to restore my bookmarks. Now a follow-up question. I disconnected and reconneted the BB but I can't get the SYNC service book to show up again.

Any idea how I can force the SYNC service book to reappear?

Thanks,
Ix

Default Thank you! - 11-01-2007, 09:07 AM

Wow, you guys are awesome. Deleting the "Desktop [SYNC]" service book did the trick. Every time I get stumped with a problem that would have me pulling out my hair (which I have very little left LOL), I hop on this site and there's my solution.

Thanks for this info!

Dre

Where do you find the SYNC service book to delete it?

It's for BES users only and it's in Options >Advanced Options >Service Books.

Same issue here. I've managed to restore everything, but cannot get the service book back. Also, the Wireless Sync option is gone from my Address Book, Tasks, and Memo Pad options.

Thanks in advance for your help. This site is a lifesaver!
