Default How to set up the RIM Software (desktop manager) on Vista (Step by Step)

Please Login to Remove!

1. Download the latest software from BlackBerry BlackBerry Desktop Software Current as of this writing is 4.2 Service Pack 1. It will ask you for more information about yourself. Most of the fields can have an X placed in them.

2. Go to start, accessories and the right click on command prompt and click xxx8220;run as administratorxxx8221;, next type xxx8220;cd C:\Windows\System32xxx8243; Then type xxx8220;regsvr32 vbscript.dllxxx8221;. It should then confirm that vbscript has been registered. Close the CMD Window

3. Install the desktop software. It may look like it is hanging and not responding for a bit. Just wait for it and it will work. It takes up to 2 min just for the program to start installing at times.

4. Once this is done lets go to Start, Control panel, User Accounts, Then User Accounts again. Now make sure UAC is on. I know most of us have it turned off, but we need to have it on for desktop manager to load. Otherwise it will look like it loads and immediately disappear.

You should be working now. I have searched this fourm and can not find all this information in one post so I thought I would. I will update it if I find out how to make the desktop manager load without UAC being on.

NOTE: Some people may have gotten past some of the steps above without doing what I am talking about. I am just seeing a lot of posts about installing the desktop software on Vista and a lot of confusion as to how to do it. If you follow the steps above step by step you should be able to install the software.

If someone has something to add or a correction let me know and I will add it.

I'm not sure what all of these steps are for, but you need to follow NOT ONE OF THEM to successfully install DM. Only thing, UAC must be active, for DM to run, NOT INSTALL, you can install DM with UAC off...

I have UAC off and I can install and run DM in Vista Ultimate - both 32bit and 64bit.

This is what It took for me to install and run it. If you did not or do not have to then congrats (i actually note that some people did not have to do this in my post above) For those of us that had problems and had to look in 50 places to find the answer I hope to help by having one place for them to look.
