Thumbs up How to enable all vendor themes on your device

Please Login to Remove!

Use this information at your own risk:

In order to install all theme from different carrier, grab a hold of the latest handheld software for your device (any carrier) and install it on your PC
  1. Delete the vendor.xml file so you can use this software on your blackberry regardless of which carrier released the software and which carrier branded your blackberry.
  2. Find the Blackberry.alx file in the install folder of the handheld code on your PC (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8800-v4.2.1.90_P2.3.0.72\Blackberry.alx)
  3. Open it in Notepad and find the section that talks about themes for all different carriers (usually that section starts with: <!-- Theme filesets -->)
  4. Remove the vendor IDs from all the tags within that themes section
    Edit like this:
    Original: <fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800" _vendorID="102">
    Edited: <fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800">
  5. Install the code on your handheld and you will have all the vendor themes

So does this involve reinstalling the OS?

yes, you will have to reinstall, but you dont have to look for edited .alx files anywhere, just use your own and edit as described above.

I edited my ALX and didn't have to reinstall. Just when I plugged it in, it told me that there was an update available. So it copied a bunch of blah_248x160.cod files and the BB rebooted.

I *love* this new O2 icon theme on my 7130e.

No need to take risks - just use the edited .alx files that jibi has been providing for months. Look here - http://www.blackberryforums.com/ring...tml#post191267
and download the appropriate .alx for your handheld and OS version.

Remember, if you use a theme that isn't normally supported by your carrier, when you upgrade your OS, your phone will quite possibly reset to the black and white theme of the 58xx and 6xxx series devices. You'll need to redo the alx again.

This is all Jibi's edited .alx's do. He posts them in his thread as a convenience for everyone just so you don't have to worry about removing something important. You can do it yourself as posted above or use Jibi's located here.

didn't mean to take anything away from jibi's post, I actually figured this editing with his help, I just though for some people this might be helpful, for example I know myself I will be hesitent in using someone else's edited file and would like to know how to edit it myself and do it that way, thats just me.
