Default Newbie here: Another BB Messenger question!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone! I just activated my BB voice/data plan with Rogers Wireless (Canadian provider) on a BB Pearl. Anyways, I'm really loving everything about my phone and the BB service. I just had a question which I'm sure has been answered in the past (apologize for not searching more thoroughly):

Q: Is data being transferred per BB Messenger message being sent? Or is having the BB Messenger 'on' actively using data regardless if messages are being sent/received?

I'm still figuring out data charges and understand that BB Messenger only applies to individuals with BB's as it uses PINs, right? However, I'm trying to keep a tight watch on my data usage as I do not have an unlimited data plan (1mb at the moment... Rogers has HORRIBLE data plans!).

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the Forums...

BBMessenger will likely use some SMALL amount of data just being on. It checks other user to indicate if they are online or offline (you ever notice how another user is greyed out, meaning they are not available for BBM at that moment? That indicates BBM is transmitting data outside of the actual message send/receive transmission.

You may need to watch it for a month or two to determine. I don't believe anyone on here is going to be able to tell specifically how much data it uses just being on and while not transmitting questions.

Sorry I don't have the direct answer, I have seen similar question asked on the board here and there has never been a definitive answer of how much data this or that app or email uses. I don't know of a third-party app to measure or monitor usage.
