Default Can you import an AutoText correction list? - 08-17-2007, 09:38 PM

Hello, I just found these forums searching for a solution to a difficult problem...

I am an expat in France and our company has just 'upgraded' me to an 8820 from Orange. The problem is that (I am told) Orange will no longer supply QWERTY models in France. So I have a nice BB with the A Z Q and W keys all out of whack and this thing is driving me crazy.

I did searching for "key remaping", which doesn't seem possible and almost taboo. Can someone explain why such a simple thing is so frowned upon?

I am being forced to use an Orange France BB - no exceptions.

In the absence of any way to remap the keyboard, I have started creating AutoText entries (i.e. qny=any, qnd=and, etc.). This is a painfull time consuming process, but if you get going on autopilot in an e-mail, it beats going back and manually fixing single letters in a lot of words.

So what I would like to know is, is there a way to create a word list in a text editor and then import that into the AutoText system?

The manual entry on the BB is difficult and I would like to automate some of it. Think of downloading the A's from an online dictionary, and doing a Search-and-Replace 'A' to 'Q'. It would speed up the process a lot - just don't know how to do it.

The best solution would be for RIM to let us change the darn keyboard layouts, or for Orange to offer other models, but that isn't cost effective for them apparently.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.
