Default Duplicated Calendar Entries with GroupWise 6.5sp4

We currently have 7 BB users in house, and use GW6.5 sp4. Several users had version 3.6.x installed as their desktop software, and were having problems with the address book not synching up completely. The Blackberry support people recommended that we upgrade to 4.0.1 when it came out, and that they would have support for GW6.5. Well we did this, and now we are getting duplicate entries both in the GW calendar and in the Blackberry Calendar. We called BB support, who stated they were setting up a test environment to try and duplicate it. The next day we called back to check up on the progress, only to hear "Sorry, we don't support anything above the base install of GW 6.5." Interesting as the BES server recommends GW 6.5sp4, another department though and we all know how those things work.

Anyone else experienced this issue? I am thinking it is either an issue with upgrading the desktop software, which whiping the BB and re-synching everything might fix, or it could be a field mapping issue. I found a good field mapping documentation for the address book between GW and BB, but not the calendar, if someone has seen that it would help alot.

Anyone out there use BES with GW 6.5sp4? How is the support there? We were planning on rolling that out this month, but if we can't get support for it we will have to move to a different solution.

I have had this twice on a small distribution of 13 devices(7100). Just in the past two days. I just reset the devices at this point because it was the quickest solution for me. Was hoping it isn't going to become an issue but...

Well, we have had it across 5 of 12 Blackberry's, so for us it already is an issue. The only answer we have is to whipe the BB clean, clear out the dupes in GW, then resynch. That is a severe pain, especially when it becomes common. I have noticed that several were set off by either upgrading their PC, or upgrading their Desktop Software. If you do either of those I would recommend whiping the Blackberry before they resynch just to save the hassle.

Cool Simpler Fix

We have been having the same problem here... We run 4.0.6 BES for GW and the 6.5.4 R1 client. and about 500 users...It is a very random occurence but it is getting to the point of being annoying... It happened to me last weekend!

We did open a ticket with RIM, and their answer was pretty much what we expected... "that they are aware of the problem and have escalated the manner internally". They even have a KB article out there somewhere that addresses it and the symptoms but I'm sorry I've misplaced the link.

As for the fix... this is what we've been doing...

We have the client create a new address book in GW called BlackBerry. we then have them do a drag and drop of their internal contacts into the new address book from our global address book. Next, we have them drag and drop personal entries from their old address book. We then connect their BB's via desktop manager, turn off the wireless reconcile for the address book, and then delete the whole address book via the advanced tab in the backup and restore feature. We then go into the server, edit properties and point their account at the new address book. We then turn the wireless synch back on on their BB. Usually within a few minutes it pulls the new address book down from their GW account and Bada boom bada bing, they're back in action without duplicate, triplicate, and/or fourplicate entries... AND best of all NO REACTIVATION...

Wish there were an easier way... all I can telll you is that it works..
