I love the idea of Idokorro's SSH software, and having tried it, I think it's great. I have one major problem, though: my blackberry is outside my corporate network - on the internet, so to speak. Since our corporate net is firewalled of from the rest of the world, I can't get to any of the devices that this great software would allow me to manage. We have a Cisco VPN setup to allow PC clients to access the network from the outside, but how can my BB access the corporate network? I have a call into Cisco about a VPN client for the BB, but no word back from them. Anyone have any suggestions?

What about using mds? If this is a company run bes, it might be an easy answer.

Sorry, I guess didn't give enough info. My BB is thru Alltel and it's not on a BES. My company doesn't have a BES. So my data connection (thru Alltel) must enter my corporate network from the outside. At this point, the only outside connections into our network are via VPN.

I guess the next question is: does my BB have a specific IP address on Alltel's network? If it does, my WAN admin could open our firewall to that address. But I'm betting my BB's address would be an internal Alltel address, so the admin would have to open the firewall to a range of Alltel's external addresses. I know the admin won't do that. Hmmm....

It may be possible to request a fixed IP address from Alltel, but you would really have to ask them that question. Normally the connection would go through a gateway on the Alltel network and normally there will be more than one with most carriers.

Apparently the 7270 device had a VPN client, so it is possible. I've emailed RIM about the possibility of releasing it for general use but only received a form response.

For all these remote management utilities (which are great) you would think that a VPN client would make sense. Not all of us are blessed with a BES server. ;)

I completely agree with you, a VPN client on the BlackBerry would be great, hopefully RIM will release it for general use for BIS users, I assume that right now they are holding back as a VPN client could end up competing with their own BES sales.

There are some alternatives, with our Mobile SSH product since the product already encrypts the stream by the fact that it's SSH you can feel secure in opening a port to your SSH server. Our Mobile Desktop software will support SSH tunneling in the next release 1.1 (May).
