Default G3 Blackberry for Cingular/AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

Where does Blackberry stand with coming out with a G3 version for Cingular/AT&T. I know they have a wife version, but my understanding is that the use of wife for faster download speeds is limited to wifi hot zones, many of which require extra payment, etc., and so it's not very practical. Whereas G3 is Cingular's proprietary high speed internet browser network.

wifi is the best you will see this year. US 3g is expected to arrive early to mid 2008 with the 9000 series blackberries.

3g UMTS that works in europe and asia is available now in the 8707 model blackberry.

Wife = WiFi
G3 = 3G

3G is not proprietary. It is all standards based.

Search (or Wikipedia) HSDPA for more information.

All the CDMA devices now are also 3g, it's not just HSDPA

It was an example; there are also arguments (which I don't participate in) that are around "Is EVDO really 3G".

I didn't mean to infer there was ONE standard; just that 3G is standards based. And the one chosen by AT&T (not sure who this Cingular is) is most certainly standards based. Not EVDO.
