They won't be skipping it. Early indications were speculative but the popularity of the 8130 is assuring an 8330. Expect some more concrete information early in the new year.

As for the 9000, we really don't have much information on the device. The speculation around the touchscreen is completely offbase. It will be a nice device, but it is not a major departure from their current offerings.

Default new VZW CURVE - 02-20-2008, 10:48 AM

I have a friend who is a Mgr for VZW who has been told there is a CDMA Curve coming but there is no release date being told to them. I've been asking him for the past few weeks about this. He usually gets the scoop on upcoming models after they are tested and due to be released. I'll let you all know when I speak to him again. Should be in the next week or two.

This is old news. We know a CDMA Curve is coming out - whether Verizon will carry it is a mystery. PLENTY of sources state yes they will. The question is WHEN will they pick it up.

...how long it takes them to figure out how to disable the internal GPS and force us to use that horrible vznavigator program.

US? looks like tyou arent even on Verizon so why would they force you to use anything. And you arent forced to use anything there are other carriers you can choose . It is a free country if you dont like it go else where.

I've been with Verizon since 2000 and my coverage and service has been excellent. I know they "disable" their phones, force you to use or pay extra for options that other carriers offer for free. However these options are useless to me as a BB business user. The only time I need GPS is in my car when I'm driving and WiFi is only needed on my laptop. Why is all the craze about these options?

GPS on devices is updated more frequently than GPS in a car, its easier to take with you, and its all about having 1 device instead of carying multiple. Personally, I travel a ridiculous amount, and it would be annoying to either "rent a gps" with the car rental (well at this point i get car upgrades for free, but still, not everyone gets that option) or bring my personal GPS with me. TeleNav gps also does more POIs than many of the lower-mid range in car GPS. Even with all that, there are many that still prefer the in car GPS systems, so GPS on a mobile device is not important to them. It is a matter of personal preference, and how you use your device.

I currently work for a verizon dealer. I get complaints about the disabled GPS every week. Im allowed to be bitter.

And i know its blasphemy for me to use an at&t phone but hey, this is only a job.
I used to work as a sales rep for at&t for 4 years.

the GPS isnt crippled its locked. It works fine as long as you use the software that was created to be used with it. Ive said it before, Sprint was the same way when it launched TeleNav. They want that $10/month and thats one way for them to get it.

I would be fine if it was locked to telenav only. At least thats a worthwhile navigation program (i pay monthly for it on my curve).
VZNavigator isnt my cup of tea. No gas prices, limited features compared, and not as intuitive IMO.

i think its alot easier to use, but it is limited in its operation. its what VZW wanted to go with, not much that can be done about it.

other carriers disable features that VZW gives us though. Look at sprint no MMS on the pearl. To me, I would be a whole lot more pissed about that. Because its not even something you can pay and get on sprint.

I talked to a BlackBerry rep that was actually carrying the CDMA version of the Curve. It was gun metal/gray in color. He said Verizon would get the CDMA version of the Curve in late March.
