Aren't there already a handful of threads regarding this very topic?

The rumor I heard was that Verizon passed on the Curve. Time will tell, though.

As John mentioned, expect Verizon to launch the Curve based on two factors: 1) success/failure of the Pearl 8130, and 2) progress on hybrid chipsets from Qualcomm.

Verizon's decision to go with LTE for their 4G platform was heavily influenced (and ultimately decided) by Vodafone, who hold's a 45% ownership in the US-based cellular powerhouse. Qualcomm recently announced the future availability of the HSPA-EVDO hybrid chipsets (QSC7xxx), which are scheduled for the 4Q 2008. This is a natural evolution of the next BlackBerry device for CDMA networks (think BlackBerry 9130 or 9330 or 9930).

I think the delay for these chipsets will likely allow Verizon enough wiggle room to go ahead and jump on board for the BlackBerry 8330 launch, which was at one time in recent months in jeopardy of happening. Launch targets will remain the same - late Q1/early Q2.

So, I am in a dilema. I have an 8703e that is old and beatup AND I am up for a new phone with Verizon. Should I wait to see if the Curve will come out to Verizon or should I just drop and get the 8830?

If you've got 4-6 months left in the 8703e, stick with it. If not, pick up the 8830 or 8130. I will warn that the keyboard on the 8800 family is absolutely horrid (personal experience with an AT&T 8800). I've not heard many good things about the 8830 from anyone (in real life not on here), to be honest.

Really?
Then please, allow me to be the first.

I love my 8830. I have two issues with it:
1) the microphone is a bit crappy. :( But I drive a loud vehicle so its exaggerated for me. I use a jawbone BT headset and that totally fixed the problem. I shouldn't have to pay an additional $100 to fix the microphone, but hey, there it is.

2) the keyboard. For me, its not the key size, its that dammed blue lighting. I can't read the keys. Who the hell thought that THAT was a good idea? I am going to order a replacement black keyboard and that should fix that.

Those are two minor issues, overall I love the phone. Its on verizon and I get excellent coverage every where. I tether it to my laptop and get pretty good throughput. The screen is excellent, and I love the GPS. Its an additional $10/month which is a bummer, but calls to 411 are $2 each, so if I use the GPS/vznav 5 times a month to get a local phone numbesr I break even.

Battery life for me is pretty dam good. But I have a car charger, and I use it. My GF has the same phone and her battery depletes much faster. She is in bad coverage areas quite a bit and I think that thats why.

Ignore jibi. He doesn't know anything about RIM or BlackBerry devices.

That was actually very hard to type without laughing.

I'd be happy if it comes out within the next month or 2.

Just keep expecting Rev 0 so that you won't be disappointed when it's only that revision; and if it turns out to be a Rev A device, then wowie wow

...with that said, Sprint had mentioned Rev A when I last spoke to someone there, but that could be misinformation, as was the case with a lot of things they told me.

I love my 8830. Ive had it since it came out and it is still working absolutley amazingly.

I love the keyboard, i find the 8300 keyboard a bit tricky after using my phone. The blue backlighting is a pain, buts never bothered me all that much, I guess i dont even look at the keypad when i type, so it doesnt matter.

My only complaint in the ringer volume. But who cares since its always in the holster on vibrate anyway.

VZW service is the best in the nation, and the fastest.

Cant complain. I just want the 8330 for a camera and MMS. Plus the slightly smaller and more comfortable form factor.
But other than that the 8830 is an excellent device and i am an extremely picky consumer.

Unfortunately, most 8830 users have no clue what it is like to be on the other end of a phone call. The background noise is absolutely ridiculous. My g/f has this phone and I simply cannot talk to her on it unless she is in a quiet area (no people, animals, wind, cars, etc...).

So unfortunately, if you have VZW service, you're chit out of luck if you want to upgrade to the latest technology. I know I know... Get a pearl right? Well, not for me. That keyboard is really awkward for anyone that is used to standard cell phone key pad or a full qwerty keyboard. The last thing I want to do is learn yet another keyboard for my cell phone.

I too don't want or like the Pearl. I am using the 8703e and love it but the new Curve has more options plus it's a bit smaller. I was really hoping Verizon would pick it up before the holiday. I am going to wait until January and if Verizon doesn't get it, I will be a new AT&T customer. I live in Chicago and service is not a factor.

I'm with you, I'm really looking for the curve and I'm already eyeing up t-mobile.

I spent a full day yesterday with a RIM Corporate Exec, and I asked him this specifically. His answer-

"Verizon just got the Pearl, take it easy"

I hate to agree with a Red Sox fan, but I am already looking at AT&T.
