Default Rogers new 2008 bb's

I was told by a source at Rogers that their next release will be in the next few months and will be the Pearl 2, with WIFI. They said that, after that, in the 2nd quarter, the 8320 will be released. No indication of a 9000 series thus far to the employees.

Oh yes, and one more thing to add that the Rogers rep. told me. When they release the Pearl 2 in the next few months, which is the next release for Rogers, this will have the 4.3 handheld software on it, making the Pearl 2 available to record video. They are just now receiving the training for it. This is the first device to have the software already installed so I assume that the 4.3 version should be out in the next few months.

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I've used 3 betas of 4.3.1. the two later ones had video support for the Curve. None had video support for the 8100 Pearl. I suppose that could still change but as of yet, it hasn't been confirmed.

The 8120 has had this for months now. This includes the 8120 that was released in Europe in 2007 and the 8130 that was released on Verizon and Sprint in the same timeframe. This is nothing new but rather new to Rogers and AT&T. OS 4.3 has been out for months, though, and video recording has been present on the device throughout that time.

Needless to say, we're not waiting on OS 4.3.0, which is what is on these Pearl 2 devices. We're waiting on OS 4.3.1, which will be released across the board for the 8000 series family.

Cool information. But I'm hoping that on the 8120 I'll be able to listen to music & view (individual or slideshow) photos at the same time (either on 3.5mm jack or A2DP). This would make the BB a TRUE consumer device (something that can be done on just about any basic phone on the market).

Furthermore hoping the video resolution is 24fps @ QVGA resolution minimal - or is the hardware limited?

Finally is there any word that Rogers will be limiting WiFi in any way? Better yet their online pricing models have an option - non selectable - for UMA is this something Rogers is planning to release sometime this summer?

Wonder if FIDO will ever get Blackberrys? I can see the Pearl going to Fido, maybe one special model but not the other business type models. I guess there's always unlocked models like my 8700r on FIDO.

I guess you were told wrong, considering the fact that the Pearl 8110 with *GPS* was announced on Rogers today.

What's this obsession with GPS. It is basically useless and a memory hog.

I don't get it. I disabled mine.

Yeah, I can't think of a single instance where knowing your location and getting turn by turn directions to another location would be helpful.

All in one devices never seem to do everything you need them to do. I would just carry a separate GPS unit if it was that important. I wouldn't expect battery life on my cell to last with multi-tasking. I carry my 8700r and a new ipod nano. That thing is so slim and light, I usually forget it's in my pocket. One day, we'll probably have slim GPS units too.

I guess I'm just not smart enough to have a need for it.

Have you ever been lost walking around an unfamiliar city? I have. GPS on your BB comes in handy.

I would never label it an essential, but it is certainly nice to have.

on the BlackBerry...Yea.

It is and I do. GPs on the BB is for all intents and (my) purposes, useless. In a vehicle OK.? the screen is way too small, it (gps), is, as far as I know, run through the cell network and not with it's own gps antenna...?? (correct me if I am wrong here). So it would seem that if one is in the middle of butt scrape nowhere, it would be useless. Besides the TomTom I have does more than just route planning etc. Bluetooth for hands free, FM transmit for mp3's, Voice recognition, and it kinda acts like a 3D radar at night when driving - one can actually see what and where the road is going before you actually drive on it. That is kewl. :D

To top it off the TomTom can be tweaked...something one can't do with a BB gps or for that matter a Garmin either.

8830: For me a not so great phone but an awesome comm device for e-mail and messaging. could use a 1-2 meg camera though. that would be a major timesaver as opposed to now by take pic - connect cam to 'puter - DL pics - use software to edit pics - send via e-mail. With a BB cam, I can see a few of those steps gone..?

Did the Rogers rep indicate when they will get the 4.3.1 upgrade for all the phones?
