I am at a point of upgrading my Blackberry with Verizon. The question I have is whether I should go with the 8830 or should I wait a few months for any new Blackberry models that may be forthcoming. I am not interested in the Pearl as I prefer a full keyboard. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless. I was inquiring about the Curve and the person stated that they are launching 8310 on 21st of January.
It's strange because everyone is talking about 8830 but the information I got was 8310....

Has anyone heard anything similar?

If I'm not mistaken, the 8310 is GSM/GPRS and the 8830 has been out for a few months on Verizon.

Are you referring to the 8330?

Why would you want the Curve, when you have the 8830? Does the curve have any benefit over the 8830 and vice versa?

8830 is the one to go with its pure speculation about the curve. No one knows for sure if they are even going to pick it up yet. My sources tell me they may still pass on it.

Default VZW Curve

I went in to a Verizon store to play around with a Pearl and try to talk myself into one. I really want a camera phone, external memory card ect. I would have bought one, I would have given them money for one but the store manager said to wait. VZW is testing the Curve but thought it might be end of Q1 or beginning of Q2. I like the full keyboard on the Curve. Sometimes customer service people don't really know anything but this guy didn't sell me a phone. Thought that was interesting if it is all rumor about a VZW Curve.

The biggest differences are the camera and 1/8 headphone jack for use with "normal" headphones.
It's also physically smaller and lighter.

Whether these are benefits for anyone is up to them to decide.

The 8830 is a GSM/CDMA device for global roaming. Will the 8310 offer the same? That, to me, is the differentiating factor here.

NO. Please read above.
The 8310 is a GSM device. It's not a hybrid.
Even if Verizon or Sprint get a Curve, it will NOT be an 8310.

Right I understand this. My question was a little vague... I meant to ask if and when Verizon gets a 8300 series device, will it be a hybrid?

Another difference: the keyboard layout ( curve has spacing on the keyboard) making it easier ( at least for me) to type

I have the suspicion that the CS rep meant the Pink Pearl (8310) ,which is coming out soon. They get model numbers mixed up all the time.

You're still messing up the model number. The 8310 is the GSM Curve with GPS and it is already out (and it's a great device, add EVDO and it would be perfect). The new colour Pearls are not changing model numbers. They'll be 8130's.

I have been a longtime Verizon customer and have always hated them. They were arrogant and the phones seemed to be lag ATT/Cingular by about 6 months. The RAZR had the ugliest interface, all geared to make you spend more money with them. Then something happened. The store reps seem more knowledgeable and the cs people were actually helpful and friendly. Meanwhile, my home and business lines are with AT&T seem to be getting worse. I decided to stay with Verizon and got a Pearl and so far, so good. I had a problem and the CS people on the phone were top notch. I was warned by the guys in the store to abandon SureType and I've found that to be bum advice. Otherwise, I'm happy. I'm even thinking of switching my land lines over to VZ just to avoid AT&T. I don't want to be the one paying for their merger!

Does the 8830 (World Phone) have a slot for a SIM card for GSM. If so can I replace the SIM card with a "local country" SIM card (in Europe, India, China etc) when I travel. And will it still work with such a configuration ?
