When will Verizon take over Sprint/Nextel? I say Verizon will drive a nail into the Sprint/Nextel coffin by the end of 2008. This will be through a takeover or because Sprint/Nextel will have to file for protection.

Almost everyone I know has jumped from Sprint/Nextel to Verizon (I am in Massachusetts).

Verizon taking over sprint is like recruiting a crippled man for the running team in the Olympics. It just don’t make sense

Verizon just spent $10b to buy spectrum that covers 95% of the country and will use it for 4G LTE. Sprint, for five years or so now, is still trying to integrate iDen and CDMA companies, and, roll out it's ever delayed WiMax rather than LTE t obe used by AT&T/Verizon. It doesn't seem like a mess Verizon would want or need to sort out.

If the dollar continues to sink, Vodaphone may just buy up Verizon Wireless. Maybe T-Mobile will be knocking at Sprint's door. At today's exchange rate, $1USD only costs 0.63 Euros and the fire sale of dollars looks like it will get worse before it gets better, so, these companies may begin to look like a bargain.

Sprint wireless is a flailing company, but if you look at their landline it is more than fine. it would make more sense for sprint to sell off their wireless than for VZW to take over the whole company. VZW doesnt have that kind of cash. Tmobile USA buying sprint? that would likewise be useless. Two different frequency sets, and many billions of dollars switching existing customers over to the new frequency. Keep in mind Tmo's network was Sprint's original Network. No, i dont think sprint will be going anywhere any time soon, they are still in third, firmly as a matter of fact, and wont be going anywhere.

i could of sworn tmobile came off as a b channel to 1900 tdma phones i can be wrong but weren't they named omnipoint at start? or what ever the 1800/1900 band was called with a and b channel being sprint/omnipoint.

and att and nynex well in nyc being the 800 a / b systems.

The only reason I would see VZW buying Sprint would be for the spectrum...but it would be complete overkill and financially irresponsible for them to do that now since they spent so much of the FCC auctions. They just have too much debt to take on the task of sorting out the mess that is Sprint/Nextel.

Sprint is in trouble but I dont see them going away or getting bought out anytime soon.

sprint needs to improve thier customer service and let it be known that there customer service has improved. There service is very reliable, data plans are fast (one of the fastest), and the packages are very competative. 99 bucks a month for unlimited everything is really hard to beat. is there any other carrier with a better plan than that at the moment?

i have sprint and when my contract was up i gave verizon a try for 30 days with thier pearl and i was impressed with thier customer service, but i didnt notice any diffrence in call quality, data speeds, coverage and store locations. so i just stuck with sprint, if you dig hard enough you can find a customer serice number where there is no wait time and people actually know what there talking about.

If they just fixed thier customer service, loose iden (sell all hybrid phone CDMA phone with Direct connect), and changed thier name for better public perception. Then they should be just fine.

i see sprint dying and some new co buying it, with that said dropping nextel with it.

i highly doubt any of the big wireless carriers want to buy sprint, its too much work and i think sprint buying nextel proved most companies dont want to run 2/3 networks. what i do see is ident dying hard, and sprint getting sold to someone new.

Regardless of Sprint's current financial situation, their plans are far more competitive than Verizon's.

I have to admit that Sprint used to be terrible especially with customer service and billing. As a matter of fact a few years ago I spent months arguing with them that I was being overcharged for services only to be given some weird explanation about rolling billing dates. It was a welcome, albeit bizzare, occurrence to find a check a year later -- out of the blue -- for $140 from Sprint with no real reason given as to why -- almost eerie.

Lately we feel real good about the service and have even had sprint evaluate our plan ... finding a cheaper plan. Service seems to be fine.

I wish someone will take sprint over.

and if you take the average speed across their network, they do have the fastest average speed in the country.

I beleive Verizon was the first carrier to come out with unlimited everything for $99 a month, I had sprint years back and service has not improved yet. I get 3G service in my area from verizon and have call capabilities everywhere I go. anytime we went on a trip I never had service with sprint untill we got where we were going. about 50 of my friends had nextel 3 years ago now i know of only 2. sprint should stop spending so much money on advertisements and a little more on service.

You're mistaken Verizons unlimited $99 plan is for voice only, to get an unlimited plan to cover almost everything that Sprint covers it's $139.00, otherwise you get charged $1.99mb to send or receive data

Compare the plans for yourself and you'll see that the Sprint Plan is head and shoulders above Verizon, if you don't require access to BES there's no need for a Blackberry Plan on Sprint.

Moot point, the plans themselves were being compared not the add on options.

Honestly how many people use tethering let alone know what tethering means?

*raise hand* of course i also use my devices more than any human should... 6gb of data last month without tethering.
