The picture is clearing up on the new Blackberries to be released this year.

The 9000, Kickstart & now The Storm. Back last fall Balsillie said there would be 4-5 new devices in 2008 so at least 1 more is coming.

as big of a RIM fan as i am,

i have to give apple ALOT of credit for revolutionaizing the industry and the way consumers buy phones

for the first time since, ever... consumers went out and bought a device with no subsidy, AND renewed their term ... the device wasnt anything overly spectacular for what i needed(sold it within a month of having it), but it raised the bar for the other manufacturers AND opened consumers to new purchasing habits...

its a fashion phone with refined features

nothing ground breaking to be honest, lack of textile feedback was a huge bummer too.

haptic feedback maybe a good idea.. but my curve keypad is next to none.

Still, it would be rather funny if the syringe was replaced with a blackberry....kinda like the dude injecting the bb into himself.

funny concept though

The only way any i phone will eat into the BlacKBerry market is if they have the email PUSH system which operates the identical way the BB system does. ie immediate delivery of email, whoever your carrier happens to be. Plus the stupid decision by Jobs to tie in solely wtih AT & T rules out people like me from ever buying an i phone as I hate AT & T because of their lousy coverage and customer service!

I hate to break it to you, but push email technology 1) isn't unique to Blackberry anymore, and 2) can be done a LOT better than Blackberry does. Blackberry's BIS implementation looks ancient as far as I can tell. Of course iPhone will have better push technology. In fact, I predict that if blackberry doesn't improve their email technology, they'll be left in the dust pretty quickly.

iPhones only get push email from Microsoft Exchange. Other apps may come along and fill in little niches, but BIS hooks into some pretty big mail providers for real pushing.

While I agree push email is not exclusive to bb anymore, no one does it better... Are you referring to microsoft direct push? It works well but that open the conversation on devices, I dont want to get into wm vs bb but saying push tech can be done a LOT better than bb is a little out of whack dont you think...

Can I have a little bit of what you are smoking? BB"s tech is leaps and bounds ahead of MS, their only major competitor, and it's "Direct Push" technology, which isn't even push to begin with. If you read up on how the technology really works, you'll see it's a pull technology which requires a constant data connection between handheld and Exchange server. Lets not forget about the enterprise control offered by BB's is unparalleled by anything else out there.

MS is supposed to release a lot more device control with the next Exchange 2007 SP and and a WM6.1 update or AKU, but it will still be extremely lacking compared to what RIM offers.

RIM needs to improve on the way they communicate to Exchange, because it's way to intensive on the MAPI side, but their push tech to/from the handhelds is the best out there.

I think they are referring to Mobile Me. Its a alternate solution to BIS with more features. BIS is only email were Mobileme is a full sync solution.

As of more recent news it appears that the current version happens to suck, which is a real kick in the baby maker because I was thinking the thunder was kind of fresh looking..

Default It's in the Mail - 09-21-2008, 10:20 AM

I got a card from Verizon yesterday in the mail announcing it for Fall 2008. So it may actually be official.

On the other hand, "It's in the Mail" is one of the three great lies.

Even less than before,
Which is less than nothing!

Pics look nice - I'm hoping that the email can be used in landscape as well. The pic shows in portrait. I would assume since the calendar and excel both show with a full keyboard in landscape that email would work that way also.
