Default 7100 for Nextel - 08-08-2005, 02:27 PM

I was on the phone with Nextel Customer service activating my 7520 and the rep informed me that a Blackberry 7100 was coming out in the fall! Anyone know anything about this?

The thread right below this one (at least, when I write this) is about the exact same topic.

Also, using the forum search I found these two threads as well.

In sum, yes. It looks like there may be a new 7100 series (or 8000 series as someone else mentioned) that is in production this month (August). Hopefully that means that it will be available sometime this fall for Nextel (and hopefully Bell/Telus in Canada).

Dawg, looks to be sooner than that. Here is the latest information found in the Platform.alx file:

Code:
<os radio="IDEN" series="7100" Colour="True" Theme="Normal" JVMLevel="1.0" KeyboardType="Reduced" SystemSize="normal" Bluetooth="Yes" EScreens="New">IDEN/rimiCharm.bin</os>
I doubt they'd be including that in a production installation if it weren't soon to be ready for release (the CDMA is not there)...

I agree, I like the full keyboard function, don't think I could use the 7100 series

I think at first the 7520 will drop in price which is great. However i think the main offering of the 7100 will be that the java apps will work on it right away.

I would maybe use it as a weekend BB, since more calls come in on the weekends then emails do.

I have seen the 7100 series and most Java apps will need to be re-written so they display on the new screen - since it is not as wide.

I don't like the keypad but I love the screen.I love the qwerty keypad. The other thing is the backlight will have to stay lit in order to even read the screen on that one. I don't have to have my light on w/ my 7520.
