Is this new upgrade process going to eliminate the ability to download the OS and install it via DM or is this just another way to do it?

For now, it is just another way to do it, currently the downloadable OSs are still available.

I don't know what the future intention is... however I believe there will be a loud cry if the downloads are eventually disabled.

Every time I hook the BB to the USB cable and start up DM it comes up there is an updated version of this application listed below are available for your device.

Blackberry 4.5.0 system sofware
Blackberry 4.5.0 core application

hit update,it does the search,no software udate is required.. now why is the DM reading and telling me there is an updated version? and I do not find 4.5.0_rel on my hard drive..I am assuming ApploaderWebSL-Upgrade.msi Loader.exe in my apploader is causing this..also it inserted back in to my apploader the Vendor.xml....so I am guessing eventually there will be another step to this thing????

Damn AT&T. I'm told it has been pushed back until 9-30. Who knows with AT&T.

Well, Verizon Wireless hasn't put anything new up. Same old 4.2 OS. Any idea when they're releasing there version for the 8330 and 8830?

It doesn't matter, just use the latest release. It will work fine and is no different then if ATT were to release it, other than having to delete vendor.xml

7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8300 -> 8310 + 8100 -> 9000

I would but, I'm not wanting to void my warranty.

Thanks

OS upgrades have been done many times before with little to no consequence. If something does go wrong, you have the entirety of BBF here to help you solve it. If you do need to send your device in, it's easy enough to recover and downgrade to the appropriate OS first.

OS updates do not void your warranty and you can always revert to the official ATT version.

7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8300 -> 8310 + 8100 -> 9000

Not sure where the myth of voiding the warranty came from.

Sounds like something from a C rated slasher Halloween flick, LOL [just imagine the maniacal laughter in the background accompanied by spooky music].
