I don't know what the point of the antenna is...I don't think really provides a technical advantage.

Any idea when a 7100-type device will be released on the Verizon network?

Agreed. Would look much better without, but as Dawg noted it is a necessity.

Any chance Sprint/Nextel will change this? I know Verizon was/has been keen on the antenna's but they have released quite a few that are internal.

Yeah that is part of Motorola's spec for iDEN that it has a removable external antenna.

Plus being on the 800MHz band makes it require a bigger antenna.

Unfortunately (and maybe I just can't find it) it doesn't look like any of the documents had any information regarding the physical specifications (size, weight).

It looks like it could be a fairly thick device which might make it difficult to carry it in a pocket. I'd like to see some comparison between the weight/size with the earlier 71xx models.

I actually like the look of it, so I think I will go ahead and get one just to try it out. I would like something smaller for use, may try it as a weekend phone or something, granted switching PIN's might get kinda tuff every weekend.

Is this going to make it to Telus or Bell Mobility here in Canada? If so, any scoop on ETA? Been trying to hold out for a 7100 form factor....

as stated on hofo today, a partners store owner was in a conferance call and someone asked about the 7100i. And they stated that it will NOT be out this month and do not have a release date.

I know. I use an i860 for the weekends and am not happy with it due to poor email obviously and AIM and no PIN messaging is the main thing. But what I am saying is switching my webclient to a different IMEI and PIN every weekend might get annoying.

The sticker on the phone 003b89 that wraps around... I would guess that is a PIN number. So, since it is iDEN, that would make it 4003b89

Send them a PIN and tell them you like the phone.
