Wink BB/Palm Joint Venture

Please Login to Remove!

Imagine a BB with some of the Palm attributes. A touch screen combined with Palm software. Combine it with some better battery life, higher resolution screen, BB dependability and what do you have? The Blackberry 8800. In final design stage now, into production Jan 06.
This is the future and its what we all have been waiting for. Best of all, it wont have that stupid Palm antenna.

I'm really trying not too, that is why I went with Blackberry and not the TREO. I donít like using a touch screen or stylus myself. Plus I like the consistency of the BB os, IMO.

And an operating system that has been hacked to shreds. Wow. I can't wait!

Before I received my 7290, I went through 3 Treo 600 units in less then 6 months (my wife went through 3 units as well). I have never seen such poor build quality in any device of this type.

My wife, against my advice, now has a Treo 650. The %^& thing resets multiple times a day. This is with the core applications, nothing else installed. As she lives and dies by voice and data while on the road, the unit is basicly a brick half of the time.

Isnt that why they made the stylus pointed, so you wouldn't have to carry a paperclip to reset the unit all the time...you could just use the included reset-tool! I mean stylus...

Default Bb Palm

I guess I,m talking about taking the best features of both. The quality of the BB combined with some of the practical ideas of Palm.
The touchscreen is not my favorite mode but there are times its appropriate.
The palm screen is certainly better. The battery and software needs work.

I would trust BB to do it right.

There is a rumor floating around that RIM is considering a Palm buyout. It true, you may just get what you ask for.

Amen brother. However, did you have to wait SIX WEEKS for replacements when yours broke? Try in 2004.. this was the norm every time..

Palm and Blackberry?! That's like Yugo and Masseratti teaming up. I had several Treos and the only things they had that I liked were the storage card and camera. Now the Pearl has both of those so why put up with a buggy, unstable-as-hell Palm device? How unstable are the Treos? Go to the TreoCentral forums and read up. Every single model, even those with the max memory like the 700wx and 700p. You really want that kind of garbage on your Blackberry? The only thing a touch screen is good for is playing games. If Bejewled is your thing, then go for it. You really don't want a Blackberry anyway.

This thread is 11 months old. The original discussion ended in November, 2005. It's moot.

Rock-solid PIM that developers embraced and built into a highly customizable platform. But the original team is gone, forced out and forgotton. This crew can't solve the stability problems of integrating the original Palm OS with a phone, and they've had 6 or more tries at it. The same problems continue to plague the Treos. Palm seems to have allowed Cobalt to wither and die on the vine. Palmsource ALP? Vaporware. Instead Palm has embraced Windows Mobile. That's opened a whole new can of worms as Windows Mobile has stability problems as well. Palm just keeps making one mis-step after another when it comes to technology, but since they keep selling they keep making 'em. Folks want to believe in the original Treo concept, which is a great one: Convergence of phone and Palm Pilot. Each successive model brings new hope to users who are frustrated with the bugs and glitches of their current Treo. "Oooh, Windows Mobile! That should solve everything!" NOT! "Ooh, look! They doubled the memory. Now we should be stable!" Riiiiiiight. "Aah, kewl, a Treo with no antenna! Maybe it will be stable." Huh?

I'd love to get a Treo that worked like it was supposed to. I was hoping that the Cobalt OS would finally appear and be a whole new beginning for the Treo. I got sick of waiting and when it became obvious that Cobalt was never going to happen I started looking at other devices. Then RIM leaked word of the Pearl and the rest, as they say, is history. So is my fascination with Treos.

Judging by the price of RIM's stock I'd say they're doing just fine the way they are. Now Palm on the other hand.....
