Default Blackberry 5790 Coming to Market - 08-29-2004, 11:15 AM

Right off the Blackberry Site http://www.blackberry.com/products/b...D=ILC-hahr5790
it looks like the Blackberry 5790 is coming to market. Great for those who need the two way messaging, paging and a Java J2ME platform that runs on a Mobitex network.

Why would somebody buy this instead of the 6xxx and/or 7xxx series?

Some workforces still require and live by 2way and numeric paging ie doctors, nurses, security, real estate, limo the BB 5790 adds a Java platform, push technology and its cost effective.

I guess not having to deal with someone pushing voice at you over the blackberry is nice as well. Being data-only, I guess the price would be cheaper too?

I don't know why everyone dropped the pager so quick. I still own a pager and use it along with my blackberry. There are many people out there that I just can't give my DC#, Cell Phone Number, or BB E-mail too. And since I have a number block on my phone my return calls show up private.

I think Chicago has great Mobitex coverage, last time I visited with my old 950 --

But GSM 850 Mhz blows away Mobitex in Southern Ontario! (Mobitex is an equally-penetrating 900 Mhz, and the other GSM band 1900 Mhz is less-penetrating). The new 850 Mhz network got deployed November 2003 and Mobitex holds no candle to it anymore. Southern Ontario is like one big WiFi hotspot now even 2-3 hours of driving outside of cities. Airplane coverage is another story, but airlines say it's a big no-no... :D

Thanks,
Mark Rejhon
