Say it with me...
"RIM will release the 5.0 OS for its devices when it determines that the software is ready to be released".

Now, doesn't that make you feel better?

In a lot of ways it will be more down to the carriers, just like we saw a wide range of release dates for 4.5 updates.

It will be out soon. So far the Beta versions have proven problematic with several apps, and no carrier has even approved of any, so it might not be until the end of summer.

True, but RIM will release it when it's ready... all it takes is for one carrier to release it and we will all have access to a 'released' version of 5.0, regardless of what our individual carriers offer.

Not all carriers support all devices though, so there will still be quite a spread of release dates even if people don't want to wait for the approved software of their carrier.

Not for nothing, but is 5.0 really that much of an improvement over 4.6 or 7. There seems little there to get excited over.

5.0 will come with a newly designed and improve blackberry messenger.
as well as design features like that of the storm.

also new functionality to the calendar and browser with the ability to stream videos within the browser itself. as well as added functions to the maps.

it sounds great! but is likely that the hype far outways what it'll really be like.

Simple answer, don't pay attention to the random hype coming from inaccurate blogs that will happily make up any old shit just to keep their hits coming e.g. look at all the stuff about the bold slipping on bgr when the majority of the dates will have been plucked out of thin air.

Looks like I lied... The website is up @ StarCraft II but the FAQ states this:

When is the game coming out?

At this point, it's too early to provide an estimate of the release date. As with all Blizzard games, we will take as much time as needed to ensure the game is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible.

Think about it,

There are no devices out right now operating 5.0 officially. In order fro 5.0 to be release they must at least be supporting a device running it, my guess is when the Onyx comes out, it'll be rolled out to the rest of the devices.

If the 8330 can't handle it then the older BlackBerries won't get it either. Since the 8330 had addition memory then the others. (83xx,88xx,8100)

If the 8330 has extra memory as somebody else mentioned then it may still get 5.0, but even if it doesn't you can hardly say they don't support their devices since it has already had a major upgrade from its release software to 4.5 last year.

They do have to balance the amount of time it would take to get new features running well on older hardware against the amount of customers it would benefit and from a business perspective, they do actually want people to upgrade to their new devices as well.

i agree but there are a lot of things on the 8330 that could be improved with an os upgrade and alot of companies and people out there still own the 8330 so it does make sense to at least offer an update even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the newer models will have

While they may be able to improve things, the obvious issue would be with how much benefit it would be to rim to take the time to develop any kind of cut-down update for the steadily reducing market of older devices that have already had their major upgrade in 4.5 anyway.

I might be missing something... but don't bring that type of hostility to this forum...

That Duke Nukem game was in the works from the mid-90's and never released (lol) I actually found that statement quite comical.
