Maybe later this year. Certainly not this month. T-Mobile just released the 8520 which is not 3G.

I've spoken with everyone T-Mobile here up to regional manager, and they all give me the party line that "3G conflicts with UMA".

Sounds weird, thats certainly not true on a technical basis, but its unlikely they would admit something like that if they were talking in terms of marketing so maybe they are simply lacking in knowledge.

Yes, this would be a knowledge gap and not a technical gap.

That "was" the old mantra. They need to find a new one.

Found out the issue is handing off. There can be a 3G radio and WiFi radio with UMA, but they haven't figured out how to hand off a 3G voice call to the UMA infrastructure in the time it takes to walk away from a hotspot. Honestly, not completely a non-issue with EDGE and UMA. Maybe, they should have just built a wider network, instead of a slightly faster one in certain places. It went from 2G in my driveway and no signal in the house to 3G in my driveway and no signal when they deployed Wichita, KS.

Never use UMA??? You gotta to be kidding! Don't you realize that UMA is a super fast network than either 3G or 4G?

You are thinking of wifi, uma is the routing of voice calls via wifi rather than a network itself.

Ok sorry I should have clarified. Anyhow, Wifi is pointless, I don't use my blackberry inside my house except for making calls since I have computers in each room lol. Oh tmobile :(

Wifi is pointless to you. When you get out of your house, you may use it.

UMA is the only way I can get reception at my girlfriend's parents' house, especially in their basement. VERY useful feature for me.

Will the 9700 be able to get those new faster 3G speeds (HSPA+) they just rolled out in the Philadelphia market?

Are the different speeds of 3G software or hardware upgrades?
