Wonder if RIM put their foot down on this one.. Guess I wasn't quick enough, I really wanted to see wifi.
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

I'm glad RIM is learning some lesson with the Storm 2. Apple needs a worthy competitor. I couldn't tell, but I'm hoping they went with a capacitive screen.

I still don't think the Storm2 would be a big competitor with the iPhone.. My cousin has the new iPhone 3Gs 32GB and it is a really cool device, but Its the reliability of the BlackBerry and Push Email that keeps me, BlackBerry is a big communication device, while the iPhone is more of "toy" in my opinion.
All depends what the consumer wants, which depicts what they get.

Funny you should mention that, a friend of a friend just got rid of his blackberry for an iPee 3Gs and loves it, he claims that his boss gave him a 20k raise just for having an iPee and not a Blackberry. :(

I'm his 20k raise involved more then just using an iPhone.
But it really depends on what the person wants, which depicts what they will by. BlackBerry has been doing a good job getting their name out there recently.

Apparently he claims because he used his iPee and a few of the applications to replace his engineer tools his boss gave him a 20k raise. I told he's nuts because I would not trust his work if he used anything but the certified equipment to take measurements.
What is this world coming too?

Logically, rim won't bother simlocking pre-production hardware since it would make their own testing more awkward as supplies of early hardware are likely to be limited.

That is possibly the case, but I don't think you can assume that on the basis of pre-production hardware being seen on a particular network, don't be forgetting that there were also two versions of the storm, one for verizon and one for vodafone.

Where does Sprint stand in all the Storm 2 hoopla? I haven't heard a peep, but I find it a bit odd that Sprint hasn't even given us a sniff of Storm.

Seems a somewhat odd choice of device to label as overrated, it has plenty of critics and those who do like it don't go overboard claiming everything about it is wonderful.

Seems like there is a fairly obvious question to ask yourself then, do you like using a touchscreen, if the answer isn't a resounding yes then that basically trumps any other factor.

I just seen the video on the Storm II, and so I ask this multi million dollar question.
I have Verizon, and seeing that the new Storm II will have WIFI capabilities, then is there a reason to purchase a data plan? If you are going to say that you can't text, send pictures or video without a data plan, then what is the benefit of having WIFI, when having the data plan places you on the INTERNET.

Firstly, Verizon will not allow you to get a BB with them without a data plan.
They require it.
secondly, you need a data plan to get email.
this is the point of it.
thirdly, the point of wi-fi is to get internet when you're near a wi-fi access point but have poor signal coverage, as (and you should know this) wi-fi is quicker, and will therefore get you surfing the net when you have little - no coverage with the data.
