Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)
I just posted an article on this. The latest info is late November on the Curve 2. For now, we are thinking it will be the 8530. I agree that I would still refer to it as a rumor.

A few more differences then that.. 8530 will have a screen that is not as nice as the tour (as far as resolution goes), and the 8530 will not be an EVDO RevA device, it will normal CDMA... Doesn't the 8530 have the new trackpad as well? (I can't remember)
Their also might be differences as far as the memory/processor but the above is I can remember as of now.

Tour is a replacement for the 8830 World Edition...
8830 WE -> 9630 Tour
8330 Curve -> 8530 Curve 2

I have to tell you from using T-Mobiles 8520, it feels cheap. It is definately a consumer level device. You have some nifty buttons on top that allow you to control your music from the outside of the phone, but it just feels like a lower end device. Hence the cheaper price too. I really like the 8900 curve. It has a great screen resolution, wifi, and it remains with the trackball, not the pad. The pad was again a cool toy. The keys on the outside of the 8520 are rubber coated. So from that stand point if you are a construction worker or something you wont be too concerned with getting stuff in the buttons. Voice quality on them is okay, might be a little better on the 8530, but if we all know RIM like we do it will be the same. Sound is a little tinny from time to time. I didnt use bluetooth on it either, dont have a headset.
Anyway theres my two cents on it.

Well, after doing some research on the Curves available now I come across the 8900 series and the 8500 (with new track pad not ball). My 2 questions is this; which one is Verizon supposed to be picking up and is the 8500 series 2G only? I can't imagine Verizon putting a device out there that is 2G only.

Both 8900 and 8500 are 2G.
And yes, Verizon is due to get the 8530 Aries
the CDMA version of the 8520 Gemini.
It will be 2G, no GPS.
Its a "entry" level BB.

I'm also reading several articles stating RIM and Verizon have pushed the release of the new "Aries" until Feb 2010. Looks like I'm going to be buying the Tour.

Dont be too unhappy with the Tour. The 8520 feels cheap. Tour is a much MUCH better device.

8520 is a consumer device, much less well built than the 8900. That's the comparison. Not to the Tour. The Tour compares to the Bold.

So basically nothing to even think about giving up the tour for. Especially with this new OS that makes it run so much better.

exactly.
unless, you love the idea of a trackpad and want to use it only for email/text/calls and run no mapping service, never browse and rarely use any apps.

yeah. same here. waiting for a curve or a blackberry to come out with the ability to set different sms notifications for different contacts. I only need to seperate one contact from the others due to me being a volunteer firefighter/emt, we get pages via sms now. Itd be nice to distinguish one sms notification from the other instead of having to check the phone each time it beeps.

Tour was the replacement 8830. World Phone, full qwerty, larger form factor.
(CDMA Bold essentially)
