Default new t-mo berry?? - 09-21-2009, 04:10 PM

i was at a tmo store the other day... asking about the 9700 and checkin the 8520 trackpad. anyways, i asked about the 9700... this guy (wasnt very bright, but i figured id post it anyways) told me that tmo had "no plans of releasing a 3G blackberry". he claimed that tmo is releasing a NEW blackberry that still runs on EDGE, but is touchscreen. i reminded him of verizon's exclusivity on the storm, and he claimed that it is much different than the storm. just curious if anyone has heard of anything about this, or if this guys is total BS. (im leaning towards the later of the two)

Can you say "Magnum?"

Lean back to the former not the latter.

2,249 posts and you listen to people in the T-Mobile stores?

9700 is the next one. 3G. No touch screen.

Geez, the TMO salesman told me the same thing about BB TouchScreen. He siad that TMO is not gonna to get a 9700 BB Bold this year. I think he is mad!

It's just almost a fact now, the 9700 should be out before Thanksgiving, and yes, the Magnum, a hybrid touchscreen w/physical keyboard is in the works, but not for this year.

Maybe you and the OP both shop at the same store!

I asked T-Mo before upgradring from 8200 to 8900 about 3G, and they said it was coming out in the fall. I asked about prices, and he said to expect it to be $250+ range. I got my 8900 for $50 (New), so I'm pretty happy with that!

As for the new touchscreen phone from T-MO, they are advertising the Moto Cliq. It is touchscreen and full qwerty key pad a-la G1.

Word of advice.....Never listen to the store emps @ T-mo these folks have absolutely no clue about what their company has up cand comming. I think most of them you can debunk their knowledge by the 2 or 3rd question you ask them. The last time I went into the store, I ended up explainin to the salesman the features of the samsung blast!!!

It's pointless!

Yeah everything I've heard is saying that the 9700 is being released on or around November 11th on either Tmo or or ATT. I also talked to a Tmo employee the other day, except on the phone. Usually the call center people know a little more but aren't really allowed to say so they kinda duck and dodge the question. This particular lady knew something but I had to learn her a few things about the 9700.

When it comes to the Magnum/touchscreen, I do know that RIM is planning on releasing up to 16 new phones next year so it makes sense that the Magnum would be one of them. Unless of course they pull a fast one on us and release it before the end of the year. That's unlikely though, with the Storm 2 hitting shelves next month.

TMO is definitely releasing a new device in the 97xx model with a trackpad and a back similar to bold. However the device seems to be like the 8900 but it is truely a 3G device.
I saw it action.
The word was that it is expected to be released in November.

It's 3G for AT&T, but not for T-Mobile, right? HSDPA/UMTS but not AWS.

Seriously though. They are trying, and with pushing forward with HSPA this early in their 3G game is saying something. We'll see what happens when "Project Dark" is unveiled.
