I guess we'll have to wait for Apple to invent it. I'm sure next year the lemmings will all be on line.

BTW - I bought an iPad. It is a netbook and Kindle killer. Nothing more. An iPod Touch on Steroids.
How is it a netbook killer with no multitasking, no Flash, no USB? I can understand the Kindle killer.

People said the same thing when Apple built computers without floppy drives and Apple was pushing USB long before it went mainstream in the PC world. Flash is a resource hog and a security hole as wide as a canyon. The sooner it goes away, the better.

I agree about Flash being a resouce hog and security disaster, but it does come in handy sometimes. But I still don't see how iPad is a netbook killer. I use my netbook for when I work in the field - it's lightweight, easy to use, and fast. I coudn't do what I need to do on the iPad.

I think it will come down to what people will use it for. For those who need a mini full featured PC, this probably won't fit the bill. I think this is a evolving segment and it should be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Yes, but I'm hoping for a larger then your average sized full featured mobile phone that just so happens to be a mini laptop, net book, etc....

I don't get the kindle killer description a number of people have given the ipad, the kindle hardware is cheaper, more portable and better for people who read a lot and for those that go for an ipad then you have the kindle app so amazon covers all its bases.

Because the ipad does what the Kindle does and more.

Let's see what product is still around this time next year. You may not like Apple, but they are masters of the market.

Master marketers.

And they have a legion of devoted followers who will buy ANYTHING that has their logo on it. And they will buy the next version religiously, whetr they need it or not .

Fantastic marketing.

I have to admit, I do love Apple products, but I haven't owned anything Apple related since my first PC purchase, the Apple IIc. The price of everything Apple is just way out of line, IMHO, and if they do manage to turn the pad into a smart phone, and add everything that makes a lap top what it is, I just may be in the market for one of these. Of course, I would prefer that RIM take the lead and come out with something like this by Christmas...

Well the lacking of Flash should hopefully be addressed by this next mecca internet standard known as HTML5 (which i hope for the iPad's sake doesnt go tits up as i'm aching to get one for myself)

However back on topic lol judging by the responses then a SurePress BlackBerry Tablet is sounding like a horrific idea then?

Below is an updated dream spec list for a possible BlackBerry Tablet Concept (a slightly more realistic one at least!): -

- An utterly polished and refined version of BlackBerry OS 5.0 or a completely brand new Tablet specific OS
- 1GHz CPU of some sort, whether it be Snapdragon or a custom job like Apple's A4 chip
- 512Mb or 1024Mb RAM
- 32GB Flash or Solid State Drive (with microSD Card Slot expansion)
- OpenGL graphics acceleration ala Storm 2
- 3G Connectivity with support for both GSM and CDMA radios
- SurePress (from Storm 2) or standard Capacitive Touch Screen (possibly from Mr Talladega Slider Concept)
- Bluetooth v2.1 or v3.0
- Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g and possibly N
- USB port of some sort
- Charging Dock

iPad is classic Apple marketing at its best. Tease the product, restrict production and push out launch in other countries to create pent up demand.

More on the potential BB Tablet from GotToBeMobile.com

A BlackBerry leak out of website BlackBerry Leaks indicates RIM is working on a tablet device to add to their gadget lineup.

Hardly earth-shattering news since everyone and their brother is working on a tablet now, but not really expected either since RIM pretty much sticks to their bread and butter. Their most recent attempt to deviate from their standard hard keyboard design (seen here in mock-up tablet form) didnxxx8217;t exactly set the world on fire. A tablet would go even further than that. Per BlackBerry Leaks:

Wexxx8217;ve received word from a connect that RIM is in fact working on a tablet. We do not have many details at the time, but we have been told that it will be smaller and thinner than the iPad. The BlackBerry tablet also goes by the codename: xxx8216;BlackPadxxx8217; or possibly could be what Bla1ze from CrackBerry tells us, xxx8216;Cobaltxxx8217;. The tablet will have full BlackBerry OS compatibility and functionality (note, we didnxxx8217;t say what kind of OS, lol).

Smaller isnxxx8217;t a big deal (pretty much every would-be iPad competitor is skewing smaller), but it would be impressive if they can pull off a thinner design. It will be interesting to see if this xxx8220;BlackPadxxx8221; amounts to anything. If released, I vote for xxx8220;PadBerryxxx8221; or xxx8220;BerryPatchxxx8221; as the product name. Oh wait: xxx8220;BlackBoardxxx8221;!

If it ran Android and BB services, then they might have a chance. If they make the foolish decision to have it run BB OS, then as I said in an earlier post, this would be a flop of epic proportions.

I tend to agree. Can't see the BB as a tablet and support inking.
