Tmobile HSPA+ for blackberry?
 

I searched and couldn't find anything, have any of you heard anything about the possibility of BB making a phone for use on Tmobile's HSPA+ network?

Nothing that I have seen or heard so far. Did you try BBLeaks.com?

Don't really care. Currenty have an 8900, so I would like to add 3G. UMA vitally important from a minutes consumption perspective.

THe 'announcement' of the BlackPad only clarifies my desires. All the BlackPad has to do is tether to the phone. Wirelessly (bluetooth) would be prefereble. I'd also like to tether my latop as well.

Again, a phone that does it all and is the "BlackBase" base station for all my connectivity when outside of an accessible wi-fi envelope.

Back in July, @TMobile replied to @Raptor464 that current T-Mobile 3G devices are compatible with its HSPA+ network. I remember because I reteeted it at the time.

SO you're saying that any 3g phone will automatically work on Tmo's HSPA network? If that's true why are they advertising the G2 as their first HSPA phone?

I'm not saying anything except what I posted, which is to pass along what T-Mobile posted on twitter back in July. No more, no less. But note Raptor was asking about BlackBerrys at the time, and T-Mobile was responding about their current 3G devices and not necessarily any 3G device.

I don't have a clue as to the answer to the second question.

EDIT: I looked again at what I retweeted. T-Mobile used the word compatible. So, "work" on HSPA+ may simply mean "work" as opposed to "not work." I need to find the original question that T-Mobile was responding to.

To me that exchange means a 3g phone will work but won't have the speed of a 'built for hspa' phone.

That's one interpretation, but not the only one.

My guess is 3G blackberry users will see higher data rates on HSPA+ than what they see on straight 3G network now. Not necessarily the best possible, but higher.

The speeds on HSPA+ are limited by the available PHONE HARDWARE (i.e. the 3G transceiver in your phone/USB modem) more than the network right now.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has hardware capable of delivering download speeds as high as 3.6 mbps.

The absolute best HSPA+ hardware T-Mobile has right now, both phones and USB modems, can deliver download speeds as high as 7.2 mbps. I don't know of any phones or modems that can deliver a speed faster than that right now. They'll be here eventually, but it's a waiting game for the hardware on the user's end to catch up to what the network can deliver.

The T-Mobile G2 claims (in writing) to be capable of up to 14.4mbps...

It will be very nice once T-Mobile rolls out 4G. I was in NYC (a 4G location, supposedly) with a G2 and didn't get anywhere near 4G speeds.
